I was looking through the police database in GTA IV the other day and I stubmbled across this guy: Sammy Bottino. Now assuming that this is in the GTA IV era theres a fair bit that may support the fact the protagonist is him.

LCPD Database information

Surname: Bottino

First Name: Sammy

Age: 43

Place of Birth: Broker, Liberty City

Affiliations: Gambetti Crime Syndicate

Criminal Record:

■1981 - Grand Theft Auto
■1982 - Hijacking
■1984 - Manslaughter
■1993 - Racketeering
Notes:

■Wanted for murder in Vice City.
■Believed to be Jon Gravelli's right hand man and his logical successor as the head of the Gambetti Crime Syndicate.

1)OK if the old guy in the trailer is the protagonist he seems to be the right age- Bottino being 43 in 2008, means he is 47 in 2012.
2) This is just my personal opinion- but he looks and sounds kind of Italian American.
3) He is wanted for murder in Vice City- thus the fleeing. He had to go somewhere were he probably couldn't be tracked. And since there is most likely no Italian Mafia in Los Santos nobody would expect him to flee there,

Mabey after he commited the murder he realised the criminal life wasn't for him- so he fled to Los Santos to start a family. But somebody from his past (E.G. Roy Zito and the Gambettis, friends of the guy he killed) cuaght up with him and gave him an altimatum. Work for them or be killed.

...Just a segestion.

Sounds possible, he has the back story for an experienced mobster.

Y'know, That's really not a bad theory, and you have actually taken time to look through these pages and sum it all up, unlike most users here who ramble on and create pointless topics. Personally I say to you sir, good work and quite a nice theory. The probability of it being true though is a different question.

I agree to the part when you say the suited guy does look like he could be Italian-American and the fact that he also did sound quite typically, I don't know if Italian-American is the right word or like a New Yorker.

Anyway, since there is no Mafia (There's always the mafia somewhere but you get what I mean) then that would be a great way to include them in a city like Los Santos where Mafia activity is at low. It also makes sense if you look as his background, and the part of him fleeing.

Thanks man. Yeah it's probably not true. It's just that to me it seems like a plausability.

Hmmm.... Interesting theory. I wouldn't put it past R* to put a hint in IV about V.

Oh sorry. I actually thought that the topic was a disscussion on which character from the trailer is the protagonist.

I think this topic is talking just about this Sammy Bottino guy whereas your topic is just generally speaking about protagonists.

I see nothing wrong with this topic.

My topic was created so that ALL ideas could be discussed in one place. The entire point of the topic was so that we don't have a new topic for EVERY idea. So that people wanting to discuss the protagonist can go to one topic instead of searching through a hundred pages of topics to look for any that pertain to a protagonist.

Good find, Niko. There's also a couple of other things that may support your suggestion:

All of the IV-era protagonists were arrested for Grand Theft Auto and for all of them - except Huang Lee -it was their first offense. Look at what Bottino's first offense was.

In the cutscene for the mission "Entourage", Gravelli says "And I care about my legacy. I've worked hard for this, this line of work." In obvious reference to the Mob. Compare it to " I wanted to retire, from what I was doing, y'know? From that, that line of work," from the V trailer. Note the repeated "this, this" and "that, that" and the symmetry between having worked hard and retiring. IF the narrator is Bottino, he obviously hung around Gravelli a lot.

Maybe it means something, maybe not.

Well from what I assumed after reading his database file is that he only went to Vice City to perform a hit. And mabey he liked the type of weather down in Florida and looked for a similar location.

Maybe he pulled some sort of stint there and had some cash and needed to get the hell outta dodge fast... so, he bought a big house... put his feet up and thought he'd be a dad like all the other dad's... - but just when he think's he's out of sight, an old friend pay's him a visit, thus 'causing him to get back into the old life.. wink.gif

Edit: Quote from GTAWiki; Sammy Bottino - Gravelli's right hand man, and Underboss until he went into hiding because he is wanted for a murder in Vice City.

Wow. orly.gif

Also, if he's Gravelli's right hand man, he need to base himself in Liberty City (at least until the old man died).

Well my thoughts would be that the first place the police would look for him would be in LC.

Exactly. Once Gravelli dies, the law are going to want to find him. He has to leave. Where should he go? Not to Vice City, he's got a warrant out for his arrest. So if he wants to retire and enjoy sunny weather, he'll go to Los Santos.

The question is, does he go there straight away (suggesting V could be set immediately after IV) or does he lay low for a while, over the border?
