I searched before posting and the last topic was from almost a year ago. I don't come here often so I wasn't sure if it would be better to bump or not, but since the topic was barely 2 pages anyways I figured it would be okay.
Anyways, favorite guitar solos and/or guitar work in songs? There's some amazing stuff out there. Some examples:
"Like a Hurricane" by Neil Young. My personal favorite right now. I listen to it every day in Study Hall.
Of course the little Youtube censor sh*tbirds have removed every video but the live versions, but Jimi Hendrix's "Voodoo Child" is a beast. "All Along the Watchtower" is amazing too.
And here's Voodoo Child - link It's my favorite song by him.
But let's not forget the Outlaws, not by any means.
It's pretty hard impossible to say which one has a better solo, so I'll post both.
Some other notable songs -
One of the less well known bands nowadays compared to other Southern Rock, but this is one of their best songs.
Even better than "Smoke on the Water", in my opinion.
An orgasm of sound, and one of the songs with the highest playcounts in my music library.
And of course, two of the most popular ones and two of my other favorites - Skynyrd's "Free Bird" from the "All Time Greatest Hits" album and Peter Frampton's "Do You Feel Like We Do".

Music is subjective. There is no such thing as a ''best guitar solo''. There's just people's opinions and what they like the most.
As I've spent years in instrumental rock and neo classical metal music, I gotta say there is no way I could say what's my favorite solo, but I'll name just a few which come to my mind now:
Just for info: Jason wrote this song when he was 18 years old.
Just for info: Jason composed this song with his CHIN only because the ALS took away his ability to use any other part of the body at the time.

Well since most, if not every, post so far has been pre-1990 (not that its a bad thing), i think I'll change it up and put up something more modern that I feel deserves a spot here.

Yep, but then again, like Schenker, Dave Gilmour is LIVING LEGEND!! TRUE, I put both at the top of my list, really
I got something alarming I stumbled across, but nothing new. DISABLED audio for Don Felder performing HIS EAGLES song, Hotel Cali, since he wrote the music for this and with Joe Walsh's guitar in mind, penned out the trade-off guitar solo ending, however, in this case, you must mentally visualize Felder singing it instead of Don Henley
Hetfield's solo on Nothing Else Matters destroys, thus provin he's not only the rhythm king but a soloin wizard. Hammett who? Oh that's the guy who Hetfield has to write the bulk of the solos for.
Eddie Hazel's guitar work for Funkadelic is a testament to how groovy guitar can get.
Omar Rodriguez-Lopez said in an interview that he hates the guitar more than any other instrument, and strives to make it feel like any other instrument possible. Obviously not a lot of you dudes will agree with that mindset, but the result is pretty fantastic when paired with John Frusciante, Flea and Cedric Zavala.
