thanks to Narcis_speed6 for the graphics!

First off, I did not want to post this in the wishlist thread because I believe it deserves it's own. I searched but couldn't find anything similar to it. So here we go. If you have played Vice City Stories, then you know all about its empire building system. It would be PERFECT for V! The theme is about money after all.

Grand Theft Auto V is going to be all about the pursuit of the almighty dollar. So what better way to go after it then to have empire building? Just think, it was the 80's in Vice City. Imagine how you could run an empire in the present day. Your smart phone would be your best friend! You could use it for business calls, arrange meetings, receive texts from henchmen notifying you of production, ect. Plus if they bring back the internet from IV (which I'm confident they will) then there's another realm of possibilities right there for empire building. What if Rockstar created a money laundering system as well? With the businesses you buy, you can funnel all your illegal money through it, like say a car wash, to make it look like you earned it legally. Once the money is laundered you can spend it how you wish. Cars, yachts, guns, security, condos, henchmen, clubbing, booze, furniture, ect. Similar to the way Scarface: The World Is Yours handled this, but expand upon it. Would be a cool feature. A way of "beating the system" and living a comfortable lifestyle by committing criminal activities. Eventually though, the F.B.I will start taxing your businesses, which means they could also shut it down and take you to jail. So you might have to bribe them every now and then. Also, I think it would be cool if there was a banking system. After you launder the money you earned, then it will be directly deposited into a bank account, and all you have to do is swing by an ATM whenever you want and collect your earnings. Minus security fees, employee fees, maintenance fees, ect. In my opinion, this will make you feel like an important figure in the game world. Someone successful. Someone with ambition! I mean come on, don't you want to play as another protagonist who is a go-getter like this guy:

So what do you guys think? Should they bring empire building back? They've brought features like this back before you know. Just like how they brought the respect system from GTA 2 and implemented it into GTA San Andreas. So it's possible. What would you guys like to see added to empire building? I will add all of your ideas to this post so no one will overlook them! Who knows, maybe even Rockstar will see this thread and read all of your ideas and add them into GTA V?!

Discuss! user posted image cool.gif user posted image

Empire building in Vice City Stories

A little lesson on laundering money from Saul Goodman!

Tony Montana building his own criminal empire.

An example of Tommy Vercetti's admirable ambition.

Blinded by the light!

An empire that falls.

Walter White defending his territory.

A fine example of business management.

You're either a somebody or a nobody.

This is why you should pay protection.

I think it'll be a GREAT idea. Maybe it'll even be counted as a Safehouse like in VCS too!

I hope so. And they should add you being able to choose what the income of your employees will be. The higher, the better they work, but the less money you get. The lower, the worse they work or they resign or you get angry customers (you dont want THOSE customers to be angry xD) so they try to kill you or destroy your business, etc.

I hope this is implemented in V, I'm really counting on rockstar to give us some major incentives for making money so we'll actually wanna go out there and get it. The random attacks on your businesses seem kind of annoying though, they should work it out where if you build up enough security at a particular business then your goons can handle it and your participation becomes optional

Exactly! I think the income your employees get should depend on the job. If you own a warehouse that is a front for shipping drugs, then obviously they will have to be paid a bit more because of the risks. Perhaps you can start your own restraunt chain that is actually a front for a drug ring (Breaking Bad reference)

Also, I was thinking with the internet it would be cool to have a site like craigslist where you can go and hire people. Like security guards. You see their number and then you call them and hire them. Simple process!

@EscoLehGo: I agree. I was pretty annoying being attacked all the time in VCS. I was thinking that maybe once you are powerful enough that petty gangs won't even dare to f*ck with your businesses anymore.

The internet and phone won't make a difference, it will be still be very much the same if they include this, otherwise it'd get way too complex (in a nerdy way). Things will be simple and sweet, pick a building and build it. Earn money.

There are already ATM's in GTA4, and they were useless, as is that idea really.

True, but they can do so much more with the phone and internet. Especially if you are to run businesses. And about the ATM's in GTA IV. I agree they were useless, which is why they could be more useful if they was to bring it back in V. The theme is money afterall.

Haha, that'd be a pretty clever way of getting some muscle for your businesses. Maybe they could come up with a way for your guys to level up too, but not in a useless way like tlad. For more cash you get good goons from the start, but for less cash you get sh*tty goons but in larger numbers

What if Rockstar creates a money laundering system? With the businesses you buy, you can funnel all your illegal money through it, like say a car wash, to make it look you earned it legally. Would be a cool feature. A way of "beating the system" and living a comfortable lifestyle by committing criminal activities.

Excellent idea! Keeping it realistic. Maybe have side mission with getting rid of feds or detectives that are getting on to you!

Here's an example of Tony Montana building his criminal empire. Wouldn't it be so fun to build our own? smile.gif

@tenpennyisplainevil: Thanks! And yes, that would be pretty fun! Eventually the feds will become suspicious of your wealth. So you may have to bribe them. It may also be smart to hire a lawyer as well!

The ability to build your own criminal empire should, obviously, be available in the game. The Grand Theft Auto series is basically about criminal activities and the psychopaths that commit them. And with V being centered around money, this would be a perfect chance to implement this feature.

That's true, but if anything, I'd rather see them bring a feature where we can get a loan from the bank. If we don't go back to the bank and pay the money back on X day, you get these FBI people in black shiny cars following you around and eventually hunting you down and killing you.

@Inusan: Totally agree! It's about time we get to play as another protagonist with the same level of ambition as Tommy Vercetti. That guy knew what he wanted... and by God he got it!

@LotusRIP: I like that idea! Reminds me of when you go in debt to the casinos in San Andreas. I think it would be a little too extreme if the FBI try to kill you though. Perhaps they will just tax your businesses instead?

You ain't lying, I've been told they check these forums out as well as others to get a sense of what the fans want so hopefully that's true and the developers have been watching/listening
