Hello!

I've got a problem with lag and the game loads a bit slowly. I've read on other topics but I didn't find any solution. When I start GTA IV it runs only on one core and it works on 100% while the others are almost doing nothing. After a while in the game the other cores start working too and GTA uses 50 CPU. The lag still continues and I've changed all of the grafics to low/off but no difference and turned Vsync off. I really hope that you can help me cause I really look forward to play GTA IV with NO lag.

Here are some features:
Processor: AMD Athlon II x4 3.1 Ghz
Graphics card: Nvidia Geforce GTX 560
Operating system: Win 7 Home premium 64-bit
DirectX verision: 11 and 9
Ram: 8 Gb

That system should run the game quite well.

The cpu usage should be about 75%, so something is wrong here. Maybe an overheating problem.

What are the cpu temperatures while running at max? Use prime95 and hwmonitor to find out.

It went up to 57 C (135 F). Is that bad? And there were no errors or anything.

Nah 57C is pretty good actually.

Are all your drivers up to date?

If they are, try disabling Cool'n'Quiet in the BIOS.

What's your motherboard?

Basically turn off any auto-downclocking and power saving features you find.

Cool'n'Quiet is AMD's equivalent of Intel's SpeedStep.

Oh and also run MSI Afterburner in the background while running IV at your desired settings and see how much of your GPU is being used. If its anything less than 100% your CPU is bottlenecking your card (which can be solved by overclocking the CPU).

OK, I've checked the setting and all kind of that options was alredy turned off. The GPU usage is shifting between 1 and 70 but i don't want to overclock my processor cause I don't want it to get damaged and I don't think it's nessesary cause my processor should handle GTA IV without problem. Mabye there is an option for enabling more GPU usage?

Here are some specs of the motherboard:
Manufacturer: ECS
Model: MCP61M-M3 7.0
Chipset: Nvidia MCP61
Southbridge: -||-
LPCIO: Fintek F71862FG

I have discovered that it's the rendering. When the game renders it is lagging.

Your graphics card should run with high settings.

Try using the commandline -reservedapp 0

What does that do again?

HitSnapper, look in FAQ,

http://www.gtaforums.com/index.php?showtop...entry1058959070

Exxon, it releases more ram memory to the game, helping to prevent stutters. You can use it now you've gone 64 bit windows.

before i think too hard on this, post the EXACT name, manufacturer, model number of your power supply. i am suspecting that your motherboard bios
http://www.ecs.com.tw/ECSWebSite/Product/P...nuID=19&LanID=0
is set to run at some battery conserving setting like cool and quiet. but a raggedy power supply would cause this kind of phenomenon also.

Actually, much more powerful CPUs than yours have had trouble running the game.

There is no way to increase GPU usage without either overclocking your CPU or getting a faster CPU.

Its also impossible to damage modern CPUs by overclocking as long as you don't jack up the voltage to insane levels.

So my AMD Athlon II x4 3.10 Ghz can't get damaged if it's not getting exposed for too much voltage? Won't it's life be short-lived?

Great! Should i overclock the prosessor or the graphics card processor? I discovered that msi afterburner was about the graphics card, not the processor and I thought you ment the processor. Sorry, I don't have much teknology knowledge about computers.

I've overclocked my grafics card to maximum, No difference. increased the priority of the game, No difference. One of the cores is working at max and the other three between 30-90% and nothing changes when I increase the priority. All is working like it did before. GPU temperature went as maximum up to 69 celcius. The screen and sound is lagging while playing. When the game loads it's even lagging.
Thats some information.
