GTA Vice City has a better storyline and a better location, but GTA San Andreas has better gameplay.

Ifthe games were judged by gameplay, I would say GTA San Andreas was better but if it was judged by storyline, location or protagonist, I would say GTA Vice City is better.

Personally what I like about VC's gameplay is it's simplistic. I don't have to worry about some nagging girlfriend, going to the gym to beef myself up, attend to my turf as it's being attacked etc.

Just me and the city and nothing else. I've always felt SA complicated things by throwing in elements I never thought would be in a GTA game. I like VC's more "natural" feel to it where I can just chill out and not have to worry about any outside annoyances.

Strangely, it is because of these "outside annoyances" that makes people like GTA San Andreas. I never liked the hunger system, but I enjoyed the gang wars and the girlfriends. It pleases me to kick the @$$es of rival gangs. But I hate it how you have to eat once every three days or you die.

Vice City all the way. The storyline was wonderfully written (in contrast to SA's case of ADHD), the characters were great (especially, Tommy, the biggest badass in any GTA game), the game has the best licensed soundtrack of any video game to date, the city is beautiful without an inch of wasted space, and every feature adds to the game.

In this case of Quality over Quantity, Quality wins.

Could you elaborate on SA's case of ADHD biggrin.gif ?

I'm somewhere in between. I disliked the actual map of Vice City - the wasted beach for one, which was like 1/4 of the map. However, the story and the atmosphere was second to none. Vice wins here.

SA for features and environment definitley. I loved the countryside and the freeways. Hours of fun. The story got a bit silly halfway through though.

VC: Story and Atmosphere
SA: Environment and Features.

Well I gotta say GTA SA had a really big map and a variety of activities. CJ was an okay protagonist,in my opinion I think he is better then Niko Bellic.

On the other hand,GTA VC had an amazing environment and Tommy Vercetti was so badass.I liked how you had properties you could buy and gain money from it. The missions were really action-packed and I loved them.

Overall,I cant really decide which is better but I guess I'll have to go with GTA SA for the planes, countryside and desert in my opinion.

Well, like you said, after you leave Los Santos it all starts getting a bit silly. You start off as a street thug who is being blackmailed by corrupt cops, but then you're helping some nerd defeat his business rival, then you're killing some construction workers for hitting on your sister, then you're blowing up a plane full of aliens for a shady government agent, then you're stealing a jetpack from a secret military base for some hippy you barely know, then you're conducting an over-the-top casino heist. The start and end of the story are among the best in the series, but the middle feels like irrelevant filler.

The characters. +50
The vehicles, so many cars and planes. +15
Customization: All of the cothes, and how I could buy upgrades for my car. +30
Weapons. +50
Map. +100
Protag, CJ was actually more realistic than Tommy IMO. 50/50
Overall score: 295 biggrin.gif wow.gif

VC:
Atmosphere. +100
Weapon sounds. +100
The 80s +50

Overall score: 250 smile.gif cry.gif

See what I like about VC is its consistency. SA tries too hard to cram in as much as possible IMO.

It's not that the story is horrific, but it fell apart after LS.

SA of course, but only if they include support for 4.2.1, otherwise there is no point for me being excited.

Obviously, VC is better than IV in many aspects, but extremely small map, static camera angle, lots of wasted space, small variety of missions and only 2 proper islands is what makes me choose SA.

I totally agree with you, man. I liked GTA San Andreas's three cities, but everywhere else was mostly bland, wasted space. Also, GTA Vice City had a way better storyline and atmosphere. I seriously don't know why anybody would want to pick CJ as their favourite protagonist. He is so annoying, tries to act cool when he isn't, and he acts like a girl when threatened at gunpoint.

Absolutely love both games but San Andreas is untouchable to me. Better storyline (a lot bigger and more varied), cartoony in the perfect way and not Lego-like which is what I think of VC's graphics, better soundtrack, more features, bigger map and just a lot more to do. Also I prefer CJ to Tommy because he's more realistic and not as cartoony emotionless as Tommy is. While the no remorse thing makes Tommy very appealing to me, it gives his character less dimensions. CJ can always show care for his people, be a heartless bastard and do smart things all at the same time.

I love VC and it's 80s atmosphere, but I'm always down with the west coast hood life over anything else although I also love the mob life.

San Andreas made me laugh and spent a hundred hours on it

Vice City made me speechless but got quickly bored

The 90s style of SA is what I like. I hate the 80s except the music.

I'd hate to say i like one GTA over another but if i had to choose it would be SA. There is so much to do even after you beat the story. The map has a great variety of environments, the soundtrack is brilliant (Well, VC's was amazing too, i will say) and i don't really care if the story is unrealistic because it drew me in and kept me interested loads.

Don't get me wrong though, i LOVE Vice city too, it's an amazing game with a great story and soundtrack, but SA kept me interested much longer.
