Apologies if this has been mentioned already. But meet the OPEN act.

SOPA and PIPA may be on hold, however there have been recent talks in congress about the alternative version which apparently has internet freedoms in mind. I see it as just a friendlier version of SOPA, and will be used as a cover untill SOPA can be enforced - if it ever does. And if it doesn't then this bill will be their backup. I don't know much about it or if it's even passed the stages of becoming a law. According to the link it was only introduced on wednesday. This also focuses on foreign sites.

I won't be suprised when they come back with an edited version of SOPA which conveniently compliments the OPEN act so that they can not only have access to a larger number of sites and stop their funding, but they will also be able to close them as they please. Brilliant. I don't see this bill going any further than SOPA.

It has been postponed which is good news but still wont be withdrawn it is just lying dormant from the looks of things. This video presents hard evidence that SOPA is not legal and exposes the companies trying to make this pass for providing the tools to users for being able to commit piracy for nearly 10 years

I'm sorry, but everyone is running around screaming "we need a smaller government" that doesn't have the power to take down MegaUpload but what would that do? Give the businesses fewer restrictions!!! What are we going to do?

Filesonic and Fileserve disabled their sharing functions. You can only upload things and download your own uploads. I wonder how long before others do the same?
