I'm not sure what was in it, this was back in New York in early 80s. He used to talk about it all the time. I seriously doubt it was original though, I believe he had a buddy of his swap a GM small block into it after blowing the engine. Not sure if that was before, during, or after using a belt for the throttle though.
Volvo's. Just kidding. Pretty much all Protons, but specifically the Jumbuck, are terrifying during crashes. There aren't too many over here in Australia, but there's plenty in south east Asia where they're made. The Jumbuck has been awarded Wheels' Least Safe Car a few times actually, and they should probably be banned from the roads.
Also, what a lot people don't realise, is that cars with gullwing-style doors can also be dangerous. A remember a few years ago over her in Oz, a 50 year old lady driving a gullwing-doored car (don't ask me why) rolled it and it landed upside down (roof on the ground) and the woman was trapped out in the bush for hours before anyone found her. Sort of funny looking back on it. No offence to anyone.
Unsafe at Any Speed, said Ralph Nader ... The Chevy Corvair
I don’t care if they’re unsafe, I love the Chevy Corvair. I’d give my left nut for a Yenko Stinger. But yeah Lurch sums up how I feel about Nader, killed the Corvair, that ass hole. But yeah, just about any car was a damned death trap back then.
Really I just don't know why but I like the Corvair, mainly the later models.
I have to go Fiero too. Didn't people end up with the engine in their laps during frontal impacts?
That really doesn't make sense, since the Fiero was rear engined. Unless the engine went right through them.
I think that was the point.
Chevy Vega's are a good condender with the Pinto too. I think they both suffered from the same problem, you know the one where you get rear ended and went boom.

Trans Sport Vans are pretty bad.
Funny story about these. My Great Grandfather owns a Pontiac TransSport, I think a 98, along with a Buick LeSabre. When I got my license, he was talking about giving me the van as a birthday present. Fortunately, he had an issue with the brakes, and he never gave it to me. I think he's still using it for charity working (moving food from shelter to shelter), but that video just scares me because the last thing I'd want to see is a crumpled up van with him in it.
Oh I won't! Like the Protons, there aren't too many in Australia, but I've seen them on Top Gear and shows like that and they look terrible! They seem to just crumple upon impact.
