Hi Aus guys, some of you may remember me mentioning i was making plans to live in Australia on a work/holiday visa a few months back. Well i met up with my mum's cousin who's lived in Perth for the last 25 years and he's essentially confirmed my expectations and has told me to go for definate, i've taken the visa assesment test online and i'm eligble to go and i just need to save up a few grand and i'm on my way.

I'm quite excited really, i'm 20 and have lived away from home before but never lived in another country alone for a year! Since it's 100% that i'm making the move i'll pop in from time to time and update you guys or ask for advice or whatever.

Do Aussie girls like british lads or am i going to struggle out there? lol

The Suburb "Joondalup" and around there has a lot of English people icon14.gif just fyi

This popped into my head a while ago...

So if you take an average Australian guy and girl, what country's people would you say they look most similar to?

The English?

Maybe... but you'll definitely have some chocko in there. Australia's general population is getting more and more diverse by the year.

I practically live next to a suburb that is maybe 90% Chinese. I'm not racist or anything, but it is starting to get very frightening. Even in the city (Melbourne), there are a lot of Indians and Asians these days.

A diverse population is good...to an extent.

Okay as you guys may know I'll be coming to Oz to get my management degree, but I'm seriously confused about the degree.

Here is the course I want to do.

Now apparently you have to choose the units and sequences you want to do. This is the part that is extremely confusing to me. Can someone please explain the entire process to me?

Wow! 3 Years full-time or the equivalent part-time! I'm only doing a diploma in Software Development full-time and will take me just over 2 years. That's because I normally do better at my subjects the second time round. However, that is not taking into account the subjects I had already done as part of my diploma of Web Development which, there are 3 or 4. It would have taken me longer to complete the course.

No! But the choosing units might be referring to elective subjects.

It's the courses you pick to take outside of your core program courses. It's like an optional subject that you pick to study for credit outside of your program. Hope I explained it in a way you can understand.

I'm originally from Australia (studying in Canada), so I figure I am welcome in this thread/can answer your question. lol.gif

Okay let me see if I get it...

So I wanna do Management, so I first of all choose a path from the sequences (I'm assuming you have to choose one field from the sequences and you'll expand on that field, ie you'll get a Management degree in Finance if you choose Finance).

Then I can choose either the 'Core Business Management stream' or the 'General Studies stream'. I choose the first one. Now are all the units in whatever stream I choose compulsory or do I get to choose which units I want to do there too?

Not my choice. confused.gif I'd have prefered to stay in Australia but it seemed like a better fit since my mum got a good job offer in Toronto, Canada (she works in marketing) and reckoned she may as well move us all there.

I plan to perhaps return once I finish. Don't know if it'll work out considering my parents are in Canada now. confused.gif Honestly, Australia will always be home to me no matter where I am in the world. I miss it terribly.

Well, that makes sense! It would probably have been hard for your mum to cope in Canada for however long her job is for by herself, I would imagine she'd miss you and the rest of your family.

What are the chances of finding a place to stay in Melbourne without having to pay a bond?

I wouldn't know the exact 'chance' so to say. We didn't pay one though.

I don't think there is a catch, we actually knew a guy who stayed at the Darling Towers for about 6 months while his house was being sold.

Are you moving over here in the future?
