Maybe in Adelaide; everywhere else it's referred to as "The City of Bogans".

Narre Warren would have to come a close second though, you literally stick out like a sore thumb if you're not driving an early-model Commodore which is lower than the Mariana's Trench.

Narre really isn't that bad. I can think of worse, namely Broadmedows and St Alban's.

I suppose that crime rates would be higher in the latter two, but the number of sh*t-stains driving crappy cars in a completely ridiculous manner just ruins Narre for me. I've spent a lot of time in St Albans, so I suppose that that's kind of mitigated its poor reputation for me, and truth be told, I've actually never been to Broady. Then again, I don't really have a reason to visit there.

Most areas of Melbourne, even the ones with a poor reputation (i.e. Frankston, Dandenong, Footscray) aren't even that bad in comparison to slum-like neighbourhoods in cities like New York and Los Angeles. They're real ghettos with endemic social problems; the ones we've mentioned are just packed with vagrants who make their life seem much worse than it actually is. You'd be surprised as to how many Mercedes and BMWs you'd see in Dandenong South...

Having said all of that, though, I f*cking love Melbourne.

Agreed. I'm originally from Frankston and I moved about 20km north when I was about 7. Believe it or not, I copped a lot of sh*t for being from Frankston (or the clichéd Franghanistan which is seriously getting old) and to be honest I still do. But Frankston has improved dramatically in the 10 years or so that I've not loved their for. The beach at the bottom of Oliver's Hill is beautiful and Main Street is hustling and bustling every day of the week with activity.

When people think of Frankston they tend to think of, as you mentioned, '89 VN Commodores and drug addicts but it's nowhere near as bad as that.

Nope, you're all on your own, no-one to help you when you get your head flushed down the toilet.
True story, happened to a friend of a friend.

Hi Aus guys, some of you may remember me mentioning i was making plans to live in Australia on a work/holiday visa a few months back. Well i met up with my mum's cousin who's lived in Perth for the last 25 years and he's essentially confirmed my expectations and has told me to go for definate, i've taken the visa assesment test online and i'm eligble to go and i just need to save up a few grand and i'm on my way.

I'm quite excited really, i'm 20 and have lived away from home before but never lived in another country alone for a year! Since it's 100% that i'm making the move i'll pop in from time to time and update you guys or ask for advice or whatever.

Do Aussie girls like british lads or am i going to struggle out there? lol

If you end up attending any A-League soccer games, don't expect anything near the standard of the EPL. If you enjoy watching sport, pick a team in the AFL and follow that. May I suggest Hawthorn. turn.gif

Oh yes they do, hell i've even tried the accent before haha.
I lived with a pommy tenant for a while and two pommy girls who came with him (just friends they claim).
Anyway they girls were telling me that all he has to do is tell people he's from England and he'll probably be heading home with someone. I asked him about it and he said "I just tell em i'm from London and that's that".

You're in luck pal.
