Having grown up a country where bookies are legal businesses, it seems strange to me how the states can be a place of such capitalist excess yet gambling is illegal. It's like everything else in life that is bad for you- junk food, smoking etc- you do it at your own risk, it only becomes an issue when it becomes addictive and consumes you. You hear too often of people getting themselves is stupid debt or bankruptcy because of gambling.

In moderation, gambling can make things more fun, such as the odd horse race or football match. Literally increases your stake in the event.

So yeah, weird one that...

yawn.gif Gambling in the United States is NOT illegal. This has been covered. I live within 15 minutes of a casino. 2 more casinos within 30 minutes, and close to 10 more within a couple hours. In fact, I can't drive in any direction without running into at least 1 casino.

I think it depends on how you look at it, quote me if I'm wrong, but I believe most states have at least some form of gambling that is legal. For example, lottery.

I know for sure most states have forms of gambling that are illegal. For example; Roulette is not legal in CA even tho there are casinos with slots, black jack and other games.

Lottery is essentially just another way of state revenue though. In the majority of states casinos and even poker for money is illegal.

So 38 states allowing Casinos isn't the majority? sigh.gif 42 states if you include racetrack gambling (dogs/horses etc).
