I've yet to pay my condolences. Of course I recognise the name, that goes without saying. Anyone who has spent a minute around this forum has seen GTA3Freak's unique and instantly rememberable title. Been given a few warnings by him in the past and it was almost impossible to go around the forum without interacting with him in some form.
I've taken my time to post in the topic because interestingly enough I just finished filming a small documentary on a 2nd year photography student who displayed an exhibit titled 'Modern Vanitas' at our University's exhibit space, with this same condition. The exhibited photos were a selection of decaying fruits, all closely representing the condition of his own body and what it was essentially doing in a slower process, taking inspiration from horror films and metal music, giving him room to expressing his anger and so forth...He's 24.
I didn't feel as though I could post in here before the documentary was filmed because I didn't understand anything about Duchenne Muscular Dystrophy; how long sufferers survived, what it did, or even how to say 'Duchenne', so it would have been of disservice. I didn't know how severe it was until I interviewed the artist...He's wheelchair bound, paralysed to some extent, on a ventilator 24/7 and speech has become difficult for him. He has to get someone else to take his photos for him and hasn't been able to do it himself for a long time, so it amazes me how Freak managed to post on these forums given the dramatic extent I saw the disease in front of me.
These people tend to have incredible stories about the struggle and i'm in no doubt GTA3Freak had a story to tell as well. They seem incredibly creative in their minds and motivated towards finding a cure, even though people suffering from it today aren't likely to feel the affects of their contributions scientifically or medically. I would find it incredibly difficult to contribute to something that won't directly benefit me..But these guys do.
I can't understand the disease physically and mentally, but I've come in here with a great respect. He was a fantastic moderator and though I never had extended conversation with him, he seemed like a great, great person to know here and in real life.
R.I.P Chris

| QUOTE (Turbojohn @ Saturday, Dec 3 2011, 02:41) | Rockstar games should make a small memorial to him in GTA V I just started used the forums after even knowing him, even, not knowing him, I gotta respect him, people seem to really like him... R.I.P. Chris | I know this is not the place for this, but there was a thread about that already. But in the end it was locked i think because if you think about it, its not fair to make 1 person who died that is a gta fan a memorial in the game, when millions of people die everyday and alot of those are GTA fans. Do they get one too?

I never knew Chris but he sounds a very respectful and kind man on the forums and I think everyone is missing him. R.I.P Chris aka Gta3 Freak.
