You could have asked this in the 'Have a question?' topic. He was a PBM.

Space is the area your picture is in, like a wide skyline in the distance or a closeup of an object. And perspective is the angle and viewpoint of the artist/viewer. It gives the illusion of depth in an image. Everything in the picture should follow that perspective as it dissapears in the distance at the vanishing point, it's mostly used in architecture and other precise drawings. For example a crate being viewed from a 45 degree angle. Your pictures are good practise because they experiment with different views and environments, which are good for having consistent and realistic drawings (although it's not limited to creating realism of course, perspective can be applied to anything).

Sweet, you explained it just as I would have. biggrin.gif

But yeah it's good to practice like that because you learn firsthand how to use the correct angles and such to make your drawings (even entirely fictional ones) look "correct" and like they could actually exist.

Learning correct perspective can be easier when you actually have a real horizon to use as a vanishing point.

Having true lighting can help you learn proper shadows as well.

I suggest picking a very specific area and viewpoint, and draw what you see, just like the drawings you posted, but draw the same exact scene from the same angle, but at various times of day, that what you'll get drastically different shading on the same objects.

A fundamental element to art is space. There's both positive and negative space. Positive space would be there areas of detail whereas negative is nearly, or completely empty. They both have their purposes, negative mainly drawing the viewers eyes to certain areas of the image. Utilizing the Fibonacci sequence is something used often in photography but extending it to other art forms with the help of negative space can help a lot.

Double post!

Been a bit since I've done something like this during my free time. A bit rushed... working on some things in Photoshop, but for the moment it's all hand drawn.

The two on regular paper are just bullsh*t drawings I made to get through class. I'm a graffiti artist more than anything s so I'm good with words and letters. Problem is I often never finish my drawing as you can see with "Tasha's thing" (pic number 3)

Note: Being left handed I leave a lot of smudges. The bottom two have had those smudges edited out if they look really clean for some reason.

Glad this topic is here. Really nice. Shame can't see anymore from Bruce!

I went and bought a new pad and pencils today. I'd love to get back into drawing. I'm trying to find my Lance Vance I did years ago.

Edit - I drew Mario. First drawing I have done in around 8 years. I don't consider myself any good either, I just enjoy doing it.

I don't usually post any of my hand-drawing, but here's a first. Just something I'm currently doing for my portfolio.
