Well, it's not completely clear whether Claudes from GTA2 and GTA3 are the same person.

If he was the same person, Rockstar would've made it a lot more clear. They would've put tons of hints and big references throughout GTA III.

ON-TOPIC: Yeah, probably the driver just wants Claude to take a bus. If I'm not mistaken, I've heard an NPC say that once, but I'm not sure.

He is simply "the protagonist." He has no name. In beta, you could assign a name to him. If you chose to enter a blank space or something it would have to default to some name. They chose "Claude" for that name because it was the same NAME as their last guy.

The protagonist in the final version is not the Claude from GTA 2.

Just finished the game for the first time in a couple of years yesterday and after I posted the topic, I never heard anything again that could be Claude's voice. But I am pretty sure that it's not the guy I jacked who said the ride the bus line, his voice is a lot more high pitched, the voice saying it was deep, like a stylish mob boss. And I did it below the train tracks by the water not far from the safehouse in Portland.

Claude couldn't speak in 2001, but Claude Speed speaks in 2013. So they're not the same.

Oh my god, first of all GTA 2 is CLEARLY set in 2013, explain to me that energetic gun (maybe GTA 1, but I doubt it) and explain why in the name of God the concept art of Anywhere CITY, is a futuristic city? Then, Claude Speed IS Claude from GTA 3 and San Andreas - do some motherfuggin' research before acting all GTA veterans, jesus.

The third argument for 1999 is GTA movie - I think everything is cleared for now.

Oh, look. "Veteran" came here to show us his wisdom, yet he has 32 posts. Don't listen to things that other people are telling you and start thinking on your own. I show you the proof and it's your decision if you going to believe it or not.

This energetic gun was more advanced taser and we have tasers these days.

Anywhere city may be called futuristic, but this don't change the fact that the game is set in 1999. Gotham City got similar dystopian and noir design like Anywhere, but the Batman was created in 1939.

Where are your proofs that protagonist of GTA 2 (we don't know if it is really Claude Speed) id the same character that was in GTA III and SA?

Why do you think Rockstar would make two different characters named Claude? It's non logical. And there was a quiz on Facebook where if you win a Claude Speed to be you it shows artwork of Claude from III.
