| QUOTE (darthYENIK @ Tuesday, Aug 7 2012, 17:33) | | QUOTE (SIKKS66 @ Tuesday, Aug 7 2012, 04:48) | | Dany first meets him as she's fleeing Qarth, on the dockside. Someone tries poisoning her and Arstan and Belwas (who I hope they don't cut!) save her. Seeing as she all but fled Qarth at the end of last season, I bet we'll see Artsan pretty early in the forthcoming season. |
I hope Strong Belwas isn't cut. He is such a badass in the siege of Meereen, when he fights the city's champion. But I can see them giving Arstan or Jorah his moments. |
Jorah's excellent. Sad and regrettable past. Oh, and about Belwas-- he's already been cut--he's a eunuch . Sorry, couldn't resist. I agree Dany's guards/protectors. They're all great. I just hope Belwas isn't dead from those locusts.ADWD spoilers: Does anyone else get a strong Assassin's Creed feeling from Arya's chapters? With all the courtesans and canals, I imagine Braavos as Venice as depicted in AC2.

I am immensely worried about Arya though, she seems to be throwing a lot away for the sake of revenge. A revenge she will probably never achieve if she's going to be under the thumb of the guild leaders.

You are right though; if she's still intent on vengeance, the only way she'd get it would be through being assigned to kill one of the people on her list. I do like her chapters a lot though.

| QUOTE (darthYENIK @ Tuesday, Aug 21 2012, 17:50) | | My theory about the casting, in terms of why they cast most of the children as adults, is for one reason. The creepiness of Dany marrying Khal Drogo. Even if she grew to love him, she was (in the book) only 13. |
You're spot on there mate. Emilia Clarke does a great job of conveying Dany's character, looks almost as I imagined her in the books and being older doesn't detract from the theme of her entering womanhood because of how she's made to appear on screen. I do, however, have problems with other casting decisions (general spoilers) and character changes: Outside of her appearance, Shae is nothing like I imagined her in the books. She's just seen as too feisty, and, quite frankly, an unlike able character. I usually like strong, independent female characters in the series because they defy the stereotypical maiden archetype, but Shae just comes of as antagonistic and lacking the affection she (at least supposedly) bears for Tyrion in the books. Shae isn't really that much of a problem though because at least she looks like the book character. A more worrying casting decision is hiring Nathalie Emmanuel to play Missandei. I mean, Missandei's meant to be 10, but Nathalie's 23. There's no way they'll be able to transfer Missandei as we know her in the books into the show. I mean, Nathalie's a very attractive actress, but I fear that they've hired her primarily for that reason and will end up having her in another gratuitous lesbian love scene--now, that would be undeniably entertaining, but would completely misrepresent Missandei, who's meant to be an innocent, intelligent little scribe for Dany, not a fit, 20 something chick. I guess I just fear that these casting decisions will impact the story in some way. I certainly know that Shae's betrayal of Tyrion will have less of an impact because loads of people who would like the book's version of Shae hate the version of her in the show. We're also unlikely to see Dany in her big sister/maternal role with Missandei because Nathalie Emmanuel and Emilia Clarke are around the same age. With all that said, however, GoT is still an excellent show in its own right and a very good interpretation of the books, and I think it just needs to be accepted that cast members need to be older for them to fit into what is essentially a raw, adult world without appearing distasteful. Not sure why they've left it so late to introduce the Reeds and the Tullys--it's not going to be easy writing them into the show. At least they're confirmed though.GoT Season 3 new cast members.
