My gripe isn't that the colors aren't bright. It's just that it seems to me that the only house that really displays their colors are the Lannister. You could have dark and muted colors other than red.

As for the Rainbow gaurd. I always thought that was a dumb idea to have them wear rainbow cloaks. Not because it's overtly gay, but because it's just not very stylish. At least not how I imagine it. I guess it might be cool to old man Martin, though.

Well, this is rooted heavily in medieval heraldry and bright colors and banners were the name of the game back then.

But, just like the original colors of the Parthenon or the Colloseum, people find these colours gaudy today. I blame the 70s!

I blame the late 80s. We just took it too far with the neon colors. When hot pink was fashionable for men, all bets were off.

I blame the 90s. They basically wore old t-shirts and flannel for an entire decade and that became fashionable. Not cool.

I blame the '00s, because I want to keep this trend going! colgate.gif

My favorite characters are probably Tyrion, Stannis, and Jaime. Tyrion is very funny, Stannis seems really interesting and bad*ss, and Jaime seems like he has lots of potential on top of his already entertaining character.

Jon Snow is a bumbling idiot, Dany acts like a 10 year old, and Robb can't stop thinking with his richard, so they're my least favorite.

I don't see what all the uproar is. You can barely tell it looks like him.

Some f*cker on another video game forum I'm on completely ruined some stuff involving Tywin and Tyrion in the spoiler-free Game of Thrones thread.

I'm going to tell him who dies in The Hobbit in order to ruin the ending of the upcoming movies. I can only hope he hasn't read the book.

I'm sure everybody but the man himself is upset by this. I know if I found out my likeness was used in a similar fashion on a show that I do or don't enjoy, that I wouldn't care. And I'm not hated by most of the world. George Bush is probably used to it. Hell, this probably isn't even close to the worst thing someone has done to his likeness.

With the popularity of the show, a lot of people are going to have a lot of things spoiled in the coming year. c*nts EVERYWHERE on the web. If it helps, I knew some spoilers reading the books but it didn't ruin my enjoyment of them massively. And the scene you are talking about (at least the one I think you are talking about), that isn't even the most shocking moment in it. Those two characters are going to have a lot of f*cked up scenes and moments the next few years.

I wouldn't bother ruining The Hobbit for him, he might get pissed and start spamming GoT spoilers everywhere. Just don't go to that forum to discuss it any more.

I'm amazed I haven't had anything large spoiled for myself yet, excepting one character's location by the end of book five (what the everloving f*ck is Sam doing way down south). People have been really good about book spoilers, in my experience.

I only had one thing spoiled for me. And it was kind of ambiguous, on top of which it was my own damn fault. I was curious about a certain character with the same name of another character, so I went to "A Wiki of Ice and Fire", and saw something I shouldn't have, then quickly averted my eyes. It was about something that happened in A Storm of Swords, Robb Stark dying. But I didn't know it happened in that book or how it happend, I just knew that it happened, so I was still surprised. Yet less surprised than if I didn't read that.

I swore off any kind of Wiki or message board or anything on the internet concerning the books. This place doesn't count because it's about the show. Even if some of us are book readers.

...and then Alfie Allen went and made a huge book spoiler for the rest of the series.... as ambiguous as it was. Pretty much confirmed one of the more popular theories out there.

Overall though, yeah, I find it's best to avert ye eyes lest ye spoil yourself.

question

Answering this would require spoiling even more twists that you probably don't know about, so in the end it's better to just accept the fact that you should be reading the books faster.

Also, yeah Otter, he pretty much made my day with that confirmation. Now all I'm waiting for is (Major book 5 spoiler) Aegon being a Blackfyre reveal.

holy sh*t! that is awesome.
and hilarious.

because that is literally (almost) exactly how I refer to the characters in the show.
I'm so bad with their formal names.

pretty much the only difference between that list and how I actually talk is when it comes to Cersei.
I don't call her Bad Bitch, I've been calling her Queen Bitch. and for Jamie sometimes I alternative between "Cousin Lannister" ("cousin" for "incest") or just Kingslayer.

otherwise those are basically all SPOT on.
great find lol.gif

How that alone wasn't sign enough for me to realize that Renly was gay in the book too is beyond me.

Same here. I felt like an idiot when they made his sexuality clear in the series for not realising it in the book. Same goes for Loras (Knight of Flowers?). It's made a clearer in later books.

Big thanks to all the book readers on here for being cool about the spoilers, and not ruining it. icon14.gif I've asked a lot of questions here because I know looking else where or asking some other place, could ruin it for me, thanks guys.

I'll be getting the first two books for my birthday in July, so I'll be able to see what they skipped over and what they did well smile.gif

I'm guessing the seasons coming up are going to see a lot of changes happening, already can't wait colgate.gif

Hopefully you just got the set four that have been on Amazon for the longest time, it is currently just over 20 US dollars. Of course, you might not be in the US, which sucks for this deal I'd say. Linky.

Have any of you seen this on Amazon? How do you report stuff like this easily and simply, for this is at the least a misleading product (that amazon themselves are not selling of course). Supposedly all seven books of A Song of Ice and Fire.

I have, to those who recognize my name, been away from the site for quite a bit and would just like to catch up a bit with how this topic has ran.

Most notably, I would say that it is sightly unfair to constantly compare the books to the television series. Personally, as a struggling writer, I think it is better to analysis how the story has been adapted rather than just strictly saying it sucks because they didn't put this in the story and so forth (though those sorts of comments are fine as long as it doesn't go into uber geek fandom war mode).

Next, I'm quite intrigued with how the next season will progress. It has been mentioned several times that A Storm of Swords will be split into two seasons, though I could imagine some of Feast for Crows and Dance with Dragons may seep into those seasons (I haven't read the books in over a year so forgive if I cannot remember exactly when certain characters are brought into the fold).

Book Spoilers follow.

Personally, I believe that the Red Wedding will occur in the ninth episode (quite certain they will keep to 10 episode seasons) and the aftermath and "celebration" of that wedding will occur in the tenth episode with another wedding with another spectacular twist. The biggest reason I say this is because the ninth episode in the first two seasons were the big episodes with the tenth episode being mostly the fallout from what happened before.

Now, of course, each tenth episode had equally big things occur (birth of dragons = saving of dragons; march beyond the wall = battle beyond the wall [implied]), though not as big as the end of one of the most vile characters in the show and kind-of the first big hurrah for the "good" guys.

Additionally, it will be very interesting to see how the creators distance themselves from the books given the changes that have been made, most notable being the delay in the appearance of the Reeds and the rest of the Tully band.

Thoughts?
