Dany's story picks up a bit in the third book. The second book is much less interesting concerning her. Basically she goes to Qarth, and stays a while then goes to the house of the Undying, and not because the dragons are stolen. Major spoilers occur and then she leaves Qarth.
Somewhat related to this, I spoiled something hardcore for myself. During tonight's episode while Jaime was talking about how he was Ser Barristan's squire once, I wondered what happened to him. Damn my curiosity and a Wiki of Ice and Fire.
I only have one real gripe with this episode, besides my usual disappointment in the lack of certain key characters, and that's the fact that it feels like the show writers tacked on Jaime killing the Karstark boy, because they forgot to mention that he killed him in the battle of the whispering woods, when he was captured in the first season.
Speaking of Jaime, it looks like they're already reaching the end of the second book in terms of his story. With three episodes left, I wonder how far into the third book they'll get.

| QUOTE (Slingaa @ Tuesday, May 15 2012, 11:11) | In Episode 7 Jaime talks about him being a squire at 16, but I thought he was knighted at 15.
Also, I've just realsied something, isn't Xaro supposed to be white?
Are these inconsistencies done on purpose or not? | I'm not sure about Jaime - was that a fact from the book, or the show? Obviously there are discrepancies between the two. Xaro was always, to me, a bit more like an opulent Persian character, but I quite like the guy in the role and I don't think the casting is really that far off the mark.

Also Xaro is from Qarth, who are referred to as the Dothraki as the 'milkmen' becasue of their pale skin. Don't get me wrong, I think Nonso Anozie plays the part well. This is the first time that I've read the books of something before the film/tv show comes out and I'm not used to seeing differences.

| QUOTE (SIKKS66 @ Wednesday, May 16 2012, 03:16) | I watched season one before I read the books. Having read A Clash of Kings the differences really stand out this time. Still massively enjoying it though.
Hoping that this rumour that Dagmer Cleftjaw may end up being Ramsay Snow, rolled into one character is bullsh*t. That would be a massive change from the book. | Same here, about seeing the first season before starting the books, and I agree. But at the same time, I think the first season mirrored the book enough to where it wasn't too different. All the major locations from the book appear in the first season, as well as the major characters. The second season is missing a few major locations and characters. But for the most part they're presence isn't really missed. Although I am sad that they don't have Riverrun, the Tullys, and the Reeds. Especially now that I've just read the chapter in A Storm of Swords featuring Edmure Tully's wedding (holy f*cking sh*tballs, f*ck Walder Frey). Knowing how they do the show, they'll have Greatjon marrying a Frey before they introduce Edmure Tully.

I remember reading it and pretty much shouting "WHAT!?" at the book over and over until something changed but it didn't... damn you George RR Martin, damn you!Regarding the Riverrun, Tullys and Reeds, I think we'll see them next season. They don't become crucial characters until that point so there was no real need to cast them until next season. They've transferred all the Riverrun scenes to Robb's camp which has worked, and Hoster and Edmure can be both introduced at once I reckon next year. Edmure is too big a character for them to leave out.
