| QUOTE (El_Diablo @ Sunday, Apr 1 2012, 21:19) | I've never read the books so tonight's episode was pretty enjoyable for me
the one thing I was confused about is why the desert people with the dragon girl are suddenly lost. isn't that their land? where those people were born and raised? obviously white girl and her guardian dude aren't familiar with the area.
but I don't know why she had to send people out to discover what was around them. |
At the end of last season the tribe they were in disbanded. Taking the thousands of warriors and strong with them. This left Daenarys with a few slaves and weak people. The knight kind of explains it, if they go back to the lands of the Dothraki, the warriors that split from the tribe will probably find them and as is their way, kill them because they're weak, and then take the Dragons. So they move east to find someplace safe. The problem is the desert is east. And since they don't know where they're going they get lost. In the book they wander until they're all practically dead, and then find an abandoned city(Vaes Tolorro), where they find water and some food. This is when she sends the riders out to find civilization. And it's not that I didn't find it enjoyable. Disappointed was probably too harsh a word. I just don't understand why SOME of the changes are made.

I can't tell if you answered my question or not lol.... see I know all that. I understand why they have to travel the route they've started on. but I thought (without having read the books) that the sand people were from that part of the world, like they had lived there for thousands of years or whatever - while across the ocean is the continent with the empires and kings and "The North" - and they were each pretty familiar with their part of the world. it just struck me as odd (having not read the books ) that these people were suddenly lost. are you saying that their people just never explored this desert area? is it like one of the few uncharted places in their world?

They're nomads. They have no real home. The only place they can really call home is the vast grassy plain which is where dozens of rival tribes roam. It's so vast that it would take weeks to cross, and the only safe haven is the one city, Vaes Dothrak, somewhere in the middle. Before Khal Drogo (the chief) died, they were heading southeast to find and plunder the cities in the south and east, and then sail to the seven kingdoms (where the rest of the show takes place), and claim the throne. The land they were traveling in when he died, was foreign to them, so when the tribe disbanded, most of the strong people, and probably those that had any idea where they were going, left them to die. So when we saw them in this episode they were in a land they've never been in, and only traveling in the direction they believed was the way to take them to these cities in the south and east, not knowing for sure where they were, or when they would reach these cities.
EDIT: The thing about this world is that it's much larger than the show lets on. For some reason in the show, they show one scene where they are in Winterfell, where the Starks are from, and then the next scene they are in King's Landing. What they don't show you is the journey. It took days to get from one place to the other.
