I know im new here but what im about to say is mostly the truth, as far as im aware

When gta4 was first released, you had one week to complete the game to 100% on the social club. Gta was released on tuesday 29th, and you had till monday 5th may to complete it.

Now when the original deadline finished, there was only around 50 to 100 people finished it, as I remember (i was checking stats on social club).
Rockstar prob had a good few thousand of these keys to give out, or couldnt turn around to the manufacturer and say we only want a fraction of that order now, so the deadline was extended by two weeks to may 19th (another monday).

I know because I have one that I earnt, not from ebay. Im actually member HPC-2209 or something like that, but I know there was around 3500 people who had actually completed the game to 100% by the end of the competition.
So the first 100 idea is BS.

Now to get your key, you had to sign a contract and return it by a certain date, I think emails went out around june/july, and it had to be done within a week or so. I still have my scanned copies of the contract on file somewhere, Ill see if I can find them.

Eventually, and after no emails or contact whatsoever, you just got a parcel in the middle of november (i got mine then anyway) that had a slip that read "with compliments from rockstar" (the same as from the press packages) and a small white cardboard box, which contains a bluish/black jewellery box, and the fabled (is it pewter, I never realised) key.

Information about how many people filled out the contract and received the key is nowhere to be found as far as im aware, and there is nothing to say the 3500 who did 100% in time were all eligible to receive the key (may have been out of areas but still had their stats on social club)

Id say theres possibly 1500-2000 keys out there, most will be kept in collections by the people who earned them, but ive seen about 10-15 on ebay, the first of which i saw went for $300ish (american ebay) but if you can find them now they are usually about £50-£70 (whatever that is now in dollars)

I looked out my key recently after heaps of stuff in my house got moved about. I saw one on ebay recently sell for £230 which is $360. There's one on just now actually that's starting at £63 ($100).

If they hadn't extended the original deadline to 3 weeks I wouldn't have qualified for it.

Hey, sorry to keep this old-revived-thread going, but how come I never got a key =/ I'm the 80th person to finish GTA IV 100% on the PC =/ Albeit I registered my real age which was under 18 at the time lol..

Was this for console-folk only?

My most frustrating contact ever with Rockstar was over one of these keys.
I completed the game 100% under the timelimit (even check my social club 'SamRosevelt') but because the server was overloaded and didn't update in the 'competition time' (Rockstar's words not mine) I was in their eyes a few minutes out of being eligible for a key.
This annoyed me so much because I had spent hours back to back to complete it in time after hearing about the competition. Well yeah Rockstar refused to give me one and I'll never forget that especially considering how cool they are and how much they are worth on ebay now

I dont like playing game like it was a race, I like to enjoy the storyline for a longer time, stunting, sightseeing etc betwen doing missions but I hope there will be same competition at GTA V release also for PC players (here it could be unfair becouse on PC you can use mods). Anyway this guys who got the keys had to have a lot of luck finding all 200 pigeons in 20 days without any guides etc

I certainly feel for you on this one. That is exactly what Rockstar said to me. In the end I emailed them (this was about my 10th message) copying in every Rockstar employee I could find on the internet and offered to post my xbox hdd to them so that they could verify that in fact I was eligible! Finally after all that they sent me the application form which you had to fill in to accept their terms.

It was a lot of hard work but in the end it paid off and I really did feel like it was worth it because GTA has been my favourite game since my friend and I first got PC's and played GTA 1.

That really is a shame, If I would've known that being relentless in my approach would've paid off I would've kept asking too.
This really is one of those things I will never ever forget because I know now I'll never own one of them keys because of their ridiculous ebay value. I have always made it my mission that If I ever speak to someone inside Rockstar I am going to make a point of bringing this up. I missed work to sit up and complete that challenge and for them to then say I was a minute or two out was absolutely infuriating.

I feel for you. You should keep an eye on ebay as I get the feeling that they might sometimes slip through the net and sell quite low here in the UK.
Its worth a shot.
