Brake dust, road grit and even water will leave the finish terrible- at best, they'll look good for about 3 months and then look crap, and you'll have to sand all the primer and paint back off and start again.
If you wanna change the colour, get them powder-coated. Much more permenant. |
Could they still be powder coated black?
Sorry if that's a stupid question, I don't know much about it. | Yes, you could.

Yes, you could. | Would it be any more expensive?

Would it be any more expensive? | Short term, yes. You can't powder coat yourself, so you'd need to find someone to do it for you. Costs vary- a set of 16"x8" wheels power coated white, with an insanely harder laquer over the top cost me, from memory, a bit less than £50 a wheel- I think the total bill was about £180 for all 4. Sounds like a lot of money, but they lasted a year without flaking, which you won't get with a painted wheel. In actual fact, 4 years down the line (now on a mates R32 powered Mk2 Golf and getting some pretty hefty abuse) they look as good as they day they came out the oven.

Sounds like that's what I'm going to do then. Thanks for the info.
