Hey guys, so winter is almost over and it's getting near time for me to put on my normal rims. I'm thinking of painting them a shiny black. What do you think? Here is a picture of the same rims I have:

Also, I am getting some brand new tires within the next month, what kind do you guys suggest? Right now I have Goodyear Regatta 2's on the car.

I was thinking maybe some Michellin or Pirellis?

Well... It depends on what sort of car you have. In my opinion, a car either suits black rims well, or it looks completely awful tounge.gif.

EDIT:
Ah, nuts, just saw the Toyota badge on the rims, my bad! Still, the same reasoning from before still applies tounge.gif.

I'm sorry, but no.. Just no.

Why ruin a perfectly good (I assume) pair of stock rims?

Actually, I surprisingly don't. I'll have to take some though. It's almost identical to that picture I posted though.

A word of advice- don't paint. Brake dust, road grit and even water will leave the finish terrible- at best, they'll look good for about 3 months and then look crap, and you'll have to sand all the primer and paint back off and start again.

If you wanna change the colour, get them powder-coated. Much more permenant.

Could they still be powder coated black?

Sorry if that's a stupid question, I don't know much about it.

Would it be any more expensive?

Short term, yes. You can't powder coat yourself, so you'd need to find someone to do it for you. Costs vary- a set of 16"x8" wheels power coated white, with an insanely harder laquer over the top cost me, from memory, a bit less than £50 a wheel- I think the total bill was about £180 for all 4. Sounds like a lot of money, but they lasted a year without flaking, which you won't get with a painted wheel. In actual fact, 4 years down the line (now on a mates R32 powered Mk2 Golf and getting some pretty hefty abuse) they look as good as they day they came out the oven.

Nice! Sounds like that's what I'm going to do then. Thanks for the info. icon14.gif

Just to confirm what sivispacem said.

A friend of mine wanted to change the look of his Ford XR6 Turbo (not sure what it would be called outside of Australia), and instead of buying a new set of rims he just got his powder coated black.

Only took a few hours to do (dropped it off before work, I took him to pick it up after), and they looked awesome in my opinion. Like brand new, different, rims. And it only cost him $200AUD for the whole lot.

$3 rattle can job. Still looks as good today as it did a year ago when we sprayed them.

Of course, that's on steelies on a car with 4 wheel drums (no brake dust) so it's like comparing apples to oranges.
