Hi,

I was playing GTA the other day when I noticed that only about three to five models of cars were spawning in traffic, besides the police and taxi cars. I lurked on the forums and found suspicions that high-poly models might be the cause, so I have explored that avenue. Being a responsible modder, I had backups of the vehicles.img as well as vehicles.ide and handling.dat and some other stuff. Anyway, I was sure the problem was in one of these files, specifically the vehicles.img file. However, I have replaced everything with the original files and still have the problem of lack of variety in traffic. So I'm at an impasse. I have no idea what could be causing this, as these files are really the only ones I've modded that could in any way affect traffic variety. Also, I really, really do not want to reinstall this game, so though I'm willing to use that as a last resort, I really, really don't want to.

Decided to suck it up and reinstall. Now I'm just doing some experimentation. I'll post my results as I go along.

With the reinstall, I can take the vehicle.img file and replace the original. Cars get repetitive. Replace it with the original, and the problem disappears. I am now going to try and see if a specific model is causing the problem.

No specific model is causing the problem, it's all of them together. The problem you're having is actually a bug with the game known as the taxi bug. The only way to fix it is to use a traffic fix.

You could try TrafficLoad: http://www.gta4-mods.com/script/trafficload-f9780
Or if you want a fix that is easier on your system, try Chikamru Real Traffic: http://www.gta4-mods.com/misc/chikamru-real-traffic-f14716

Both fixes have worked for me without a problem but just be warned that TrafficLoad has been known to cause missing or slow loading textures.
