 | QUOTE | January 31, 2011 PlayStation platform-puzzle-adventure Oddworld: Abe's Oddysee is being redone with a new 3D physics engine and high-definition graphics, according to series creator Lorne Lanning.
Abe HD, as the remake is currently being called, will be a product of UK-based Just Add Water, the same studio working on a PS3 remake of first-person shooter Oddworld: Stranger's Wrath for release this year, according to a teased interview excerpt from the upcoming Electronic Gaming Monthly.
The Abe's Oddysee remake won't take the game in any surprising new directions, Lanning said. "They are not trying to reinvent any wheels. It’s like, ‘Can we make that experience in a new engine, with new tech, in the old way?’," he said.
It's not immediately clear which platforms the HD Oddysee is being planned for, or what release window the studio is targeting. |
So what do you think? Awesome? Don't mess with a masterpiece? We cant be sure of anything until screens are released but I'm excited/apprehensive none the less. This post has been edited by OnePiece on Friday, Aug 10 2012, 07:49

The game was not out in 1917, so you must be mistaking it for something else. I picked Abe's Oddysee up again recently, and for a game that's 16 years old, it's still remarkably entertaining. Really enjoy the story and the atmosphere, and the gameplay itself is quite innovative, even today. I must say that I have my doubts about a 3D remake of this, which I have a feeling will be some third person Ratchet & Clank-esque deal, and I doubt that would suit the game. On the other hand, I don't see a full-price platform game doing well in the current market, so something has to change, let's just hope it'll be for the better.

| QUOTE (OnePiece @ Feb 28 2011, 06:01) | | The thing is all the sprites in the original game are just 3d models rendered to 2d as are the backdrops, so they could technically keep the game exactly the same only in 3d, OWI may be hesitant about using 15 year old content though, its yet to be seen. Also I do think that adding physics to it would be distracting and wouldnt add anything to the game, Its going to be hard to pull this game off. | THIS. The game was all 3D Model based, just as 2D Sprites instead, the game even switched to FMV for things like changing Stations Departments and Transport, all which could be streamlined into a 3D engine with ease. As someone else has said, as long as they keep the original music and speech, introduce the quick save option from the second, then this could be a great PSN/Steam title.

It made the second game so easy it was almost like cheating.

Fail and you had to go right back to beggining and some puzzels were hard/time-consuming. Dont forget there was always the chance you could quicksave in a spot that you end up ganking your self and have to restart anyway. Maybe there will be an achievment for beating the game without it. (if they do add quicksave.) Imagine avatar awards for 360. Would be awesome having my own pet Scrab or Slig Armour! Also quick-poll which do you think is better Scrabs or Paramites?
