£1.34 per litre petrol and £1.40 a litre of diesel confused.gif

its funny how Americans moan like mad about there fuel prices going up but really its nothing, it only seems high because there cars are fuel guzzling pieces of sh*t.

I've seen it as low as £1.31/£1.35 respectively. Also, its comparatively so high here because we have about 70% fuel duty.

thats pretty cheap i would love to pay that, ive seen diesel at 1.37 in Birmingham but the further out of the cities the more expensive it is and i live in the country. ive heard its pretty cheap around cities near docks.

No, we whine because we don't like the idea of paying more for gas so some asshole in the middle east can buy another island and gold plated car.

I'd much rather have my fuel-thirsty SUV than some little piece of econo-junk. I'll always prefer space, comfort and power over economy. There's nothing worse than being stuffed into a sardine can fitted with a sewing machine motor. My S10 (may it RIP sad.gif) is as small as I'm willing to go.

I don't really understand the point of driving a truck as a normal car. I'd consider a 5-Series E39 quite large and comfortable...

Most people drive trucks because of the large amount of space and the high seating position (hence the recent plague of crossovers where car manufacturers have tried to replicate the SUV view with a car chassis). They are more convenient to transport things and have historically been safer.

In countries where fuel is cheap enough, the minor extra cost of running the truck is justified by these advantages.

Most trucks I've been in aren't even that roomy. You have to have a crew cab to get any reasonable kind of space (or a burb/excursion). I've driven XJ's like carlover has and ZJ's and neither were as roomy as my little 5er. Airbags and modern bulky center consoles eat up so much space.

yeah you can get an audi a4 or a6 or a bmw 3 or 5 series with a 2 litere diesel engine and its good on fuel, the engine will last and its powerful.

or if you want a 4 x 4 why not get a diesel one? other than that quit whining about fuel if you are driving a 3 litre plus petrol car.

Getting a Diesel truck and a gas truck can be the difference in spending $2000 or $6000+
They're not as common over here in the States, Diesel cars are all but non existent over here, and there's a good number of people that have never so much as been inside a car with an engine smaller than three liters.

It's a different world over here that you obviously fail to even begin to understand. So don't don't try to insult something you don't grasp in the slightest.

lol. powerful? yeah right. So much for ultimate driving machine when you have some anemic piece of sh*t like that in a bimmer.

And usually, diesel is so much more expensive here that it's not really worth it unless you tow/haul, which is why they're primarily only in 3/4+ ton trucks. You're not usually saving any money in a diesel VW or Merc (our primary diesel cars here) unless you convert them to run on WVO.

The only factory diesel 4x4's here are 3/4+ ton trucks, H1's/Humvees (which could technically fall into the former category), some rare 70's-90's 1/2 ton Chevys, and older (70's and 80's) 1/4 ton trucks and SUV's that had some really horrible diesels (Nissans/Izuzus).

i see where you guys are coming from, i mean diesel is good but it depends how much more expensive it is, i mean you will get about 50mpg in a 3 litre diesel bmw or audi.

and i mean the manufacturers over there could sort it out. i mean we have range rovers here that are diesel, audi 4x4's toyota 4x4's.

basically what i am trying to say is you have no right complaining about fuel prices when its not that much at all. i think they have made sh*tty diesels for the americans because over here they have got the diesel engine smooth and it runs like a petrol engine and they are good because we all drive manual here and they are alot easier on the clutch.

It doesn't matter if I drive an H1 with 640ci gasser swapped into it, if I'm paying twice as much for gas as I should for the sole purpose of making someone else rich, then I have every right to complain.

well thats tough sh*t isnt it, you will have to get used to it because fuel is going up everywhere, you will be in for a real treat when it goes up in the future.

Maybe 50 smaller, inferior imperial mpg but not 50 US mpg. You have to work to get 50 US MPG out of a 2 liter Jetta TDI.

Once converted over, our figures don't look quite as bad and yours don't look quite as good.

Also, underpowered? My 535i literally makes almost twice the power of a 524td with comparable torque figures and over twice what a 524d of the same year was making (they actually used to sell diesel 5ers here back then). The cost of the two was pretty similar as well. For the same money, I'd rather have the big, powerful 3.5 gasser and go fast. Sure it says I'm only getting 16 mpg but I'm having fun with it.

There's really been very little in factory high performance diesels so far (Though BMW and Audi are certainly trying to change that).

What is the point of that post? I mean really. For one, fuel prices are currently going down over here. And then you basically say that under equal circumstances, everyone except the U.S. has the right to complain about fuel prices.

Please f*ck off with your elitist bullsh*t. No one wants to hear it.

It's certainly not bad but I'm guessing the price of one isn't far off of a twin turbo 550i. Then you have the 550d with 376 hp but that's almost into M5 price territory. As long as diesels command such a premium, there's always going to be a better bang for buck gasser option.

its not really elitist bullsh*t its probably what is going to happen. americans always come across as loud mouthed people that think they have the right to everything, anyway you never told me the current petrol prices?
