Hey,

Would it be possible to write a program that allows easy access to a router and adding/deleting MAC address?

Basically, I'm setting up a network with MAC filtering enabled but I won't be there all the time to add and remove MAC addresses from the router.

The network is for a Christian camp that will offer WI FI internet to campers. As such, the whole set up needs to be cheap, secure and reliable. Having looked at several options, I have decided that it will just use MAC filtering to keep it secure.

So, what I need is a simple program that will automatically access the router, allow new MAC addresses to be added, allow them to be deleted or automatically delete them after a set time period, ie; an hour, 24 hours or a week.

Edit: It needs to run on Windows machines, OSes XP- 7.

Edit2:

Need a simple program that allows MAC address to be add to the router's MAC filter list
So, like it has access to the router but only shows the MAC filter page
Allows the user to add MAC address and set a time limit on how long that MAC address is valid

You could use WatiN. It's for .Net and can simulate a web browser and a user clicking on it.

I can't program so have no idea if it is possible. The application would be better off stand alone and not a web browser based app. Reasons for this are: Quicker to load than the webbrowser, uses less resources, easier to use as it will have all input fields readily available.

Thanks for the link.

WatiN is used to create web application testing tools and simulates user actions (clicks, typing, etc.). Dice suggested it so that you can automate actions performed on your router's web interface. You could create a standalone application that will log into the router's configuration page, add/remove the mac addresses and save.
I'm afraid I can't be any more helpful, it could be easier if we knew the manufacturer and model of your router.

I'm no WiFi guru but I'm not certain if filtering MAC addresses would be the best way to go about it. This ought to be a common problem and surely there must be readily available software for this purpose.

WaitN looks very intriguing, wouldn't it just be easier to set the security up using WPA?

Or alternatively an wireless hotspot gateway? Or something along those lines?
