| QUOTE (GTASAIDEAMASTER @ Tuesday, Aug 7 2012, 13:28) | So,any tips for a new mage? | Just keep raising your skills in combat and don't get into any crafting just yet. If you raise your overall level by crafting, you'll scale up the enemies in levelled dungeons and have a tough time getting past them. Keep a load of staves for when your magicka runs out - I usually go staff in one hand, spell in the other - it keeps your enchanting going when you charge them up and saves magicka. The conjuration and destruction staves are the best, the restoration, alteration, and illusion aren't so good. Apart from the staff of paralysis it's best to cast those spells by hand. Heavy armoured warriors make the best followers, and will keep enemies busy while you stand back and cast spells. I'm having a ton of trouble getting Skyrim to run. It keeps crashing 5 minutes in. I was recommended by steam to set it to high, so I did and everything was fine for five minutes then the frame rate plummets, then it crashes. I've gradually lowered the settings, but each time it's the same - 5 minutes of play then crash. It has now happened on the very lowest settings possible.

So,to those who answered.I am using novice robes and hood with some enchanted bracers, amulet and ring(I enchanted it).I haven't had a follower nor I thought of it since I had Sven(or what his idiot name is),a dog and 3 horses die because of me.So,does someone have a suggestion for a follower?I do not want an archer(Sven died, hagravens) or a dog. Also a spell would be nice..I have Basic spells on other focusings of magic like Restoration(Healing),conjuration(Conjure familiar, raise zombie, bound sword is a conjuration aswell I believe),Illusion(Courage, which I believe belongs here).I might have some more, and since I'm a destruction mage(looking to master destruction before branching out) I have the main spells I use here, which are frostbite(use it against flame atronatches and not much else),firebolt(the single spell that seems to do actual damage on a wisp mother, also it is a long range spell),flames(killing falmer, chaurus, frost trolls,trolls,people...) and sparkles(wolves, dwarven sh*t)
I need some hints on how to kill a goddamn wispmother.I hide behind a wall and show up quick, she shoots the 3 frost spikes and I shoot a firebolt.Best working thing I got to kill the bitch.

There's no point attacking a wolf with sparks because it doesn't have any magicka - same with Dwarven automatons. Wispmothers have high magicka, and it's even higher while the wisps are alive. The wisps have a spell that slows you down called energy sap - attack them with sparks and flames, then go for the shades. Wear down their magicka with sparks, so the can't attack you with their frostbite spell then finish off their health (which is only small) then attack the wispmother with some sparks, but mostly flames. Thankfully they are very rare. Any of the housecarls are good warriors, but Uthgerd, Benor and Cosnach are much better company and funnier. They hang out in the inns in Whiterun, Markarth and Morthal.

Now, this may be biased by my playstyle, but you can build a pretty decent character using these skills carefully. I'll start with destruction. Firebolt and its ice equivalent are awesome with the stagger perk that basically knocks back your enemy if your bolt hits. You can just spam these and your enemy will die shortly, works great on dragons. One thing though, choose one thing (fire, ice or sparks) and concentrate on that. I wasted a good five perks with my mage on sh*t I never use. You can build a powerhouse without investing more than a few perks. Conjuration is my favorite, so here's what I do. Go out and kill a bear, or a deer, or whatever the hell you want as long as it's not in a dangerous area. Then, start spamming Soul Capture on the dead body. This will level up your conjuration very quickly. Make it to a high level and then you can get the "Conjure Dremora Lord" spell and double casting and distance perks if you want them. Now mix this up with some sneak, and long story short you can hide in a corner and keep spawning Dremora to wear down your enemies. Then you pop out and finish them with a few bolts. Works fantastic, and often enemies go for them and not you. Their health and damage is decent too. You can use the Sanguine rose instead of the spell (same effect) if you're worried about imbalance, just keep a lot of grand soul gems with you in case it runs out. Illusion isn't my favorite, but I do know spamming muffle while walking around helps you level up quickly. Restoration is good in a pinch, but only if you're not closing with the enemy. Helpful when pinned down or after the other guy is dead, but otherwise not the best. The basic healing spell works good, healing and the Sanguine Rose make a decent set. Alteration, well, isn't the most useful of schools. It's nice to cast Oakflesh or Ebonyflesh before a tough battle. Don't sink perks into it though, you can power level this with enchanted gear and by standing on a wolf cage (I can give you more details if you want). Hope this helps you out, my mage character is probably my favorite. A khajjit, if you can believe it.

So after about 111 hours into the game, I finally beat the actual main story line, since I had delayed that for quite some time, mostly to do side quests. I must say, the sky is Sovnguarde was really trippy (but very neat!) and the Hall of Valor was massive.
Now that I have that out of the way, I'm just trying to discover all the locations on the map and get any miscellaneous and side quests I've missed out on, not to mention clearing dungeons and caves. I'm also downloading Dawnguard as I type this, so I'll see what's in store for me there.
I might start trying to level up some of my skills; the magic ones are very low, since I'm playing as a warrior, not a mage.

My current character is Breton vampire called Mebent Bienne and he specialises in Illusion, Alteration and bit of ice Destruction magic, this as you can probably guess allows me far more options in the world then a warrior.

Also this is my 1000th Post, I'm so happy right now. | Congrats. You've got some nice photos. You can't easily see that one is a picture of a big city though (Whiterun) because the eyes aren't drawn towards it. Most of my shots are stills from recordings, so I can go thru the video and take a screenshot of the best pic. Photography is all about capturing light so you should try and make some light shine on the subject When you're taking outdoor shots make sure the sun is behind the camera and shining on the subject And if you want to make a subject more interesting, try to frame it in something so the eyes are drawn towards it This is a nice one by Toup. The legs of a Dwarven Centurion framing the character. Completed DG with my mage a while ago and I've not started it yet with my Orc, but I'm doing a pretty epic side quest that so far has nothing to do with DG, but came down with it.

I made a second character Abel Cain, he's a redguard and did the Oghma Infinium glitch to get myself to level 81, since i'd already done most of the questslines with my 1st character i decided to put the difficulty to the lowest setting so i could be the most powerfull character on the game. I have every house bought and upgraded, about 150,000 septims, 4 sets of legendary enchanted armor two light, two heavy all exceeding 1000 armor rating, i have a daedric bow capable of 350 damage before fire/frost damage, a deadric mace and sword combo both of which do about 220-240 damage each so it's quite a powerfull combination. I can do master level destruction, conjuration and illusion spells and if i want to be stealthy i'm practically invisible to most enemies. I'm currently wearing the Ebony Mail armor, Daedric helmet, Daedric Gauntlets and Ebony boots which looks badass together, it's armor rating all together is 1024 meaning punching Elder Dragons to death isn't exactly hard haha.
