| QUOTE (niko bellic half brother @ Tuesday, Sep 18 2012, 15:01) | | So I'm basically just wondering, are the shows quite similar in terms of writing? Does BE have the same great humour that Sopranos had? | stop wondering. start watching. Boardwalk Empire is definitely on the same level as Sopranos. you might as well consider it Sopranos but set in the 1920's. it's every bit as good in every way; acting, writing, directing, editing, cinematography, musical score/soundtrack. and yes there's humor mixed throughout the serious drama, sex, and violence. HBO is finally getting back to its roots. ever since the Sopranos wrapped and they cancelled Rome and Deadwood, they stopped taking risks for awhile and the few shows they kept were garbage (like Entourage and Hung... so utterly boring and shallow). with Boardwalk (and Game of Thrones, for that matter) they have completely redeemed themselves. if you're not watching Boardwalk, you're missing the best television on TV.

HBO is finally getting back to its roots. | Sold. That's all I needed to know. I'm glad you mentioned the soundtrack. I forgot to ask about that. The Sopranos had an awesome variety of great music throughout it's 6 seasons. Will now proceed to ordering seasons 1+2. When I get the chance, I'm going to blast through each season in 2 seperate marathon sessions like I did with the first 3 seasons of The Sopranos nearly 10 years ago. Loved Steve Buscemi as Tony Blundetto, so I'm expecting nothing short of a great performance in BE too.

In hinsight, how genius was Roseitti's introduction? Now, every scene with Rosetti, I'm on the edge of my seat, afraid he's going to beat somebody to death with a lead pipe. Worst part is, how bloody deliberately inquisitory he is, like he's begging to be offended, just so he has a reason to beat somebody to death with a lead pipe. You could cut the tension with a knife in the scene where he is ordering spaghetti ("it's like a noodle") and coffee. When the cute waitress said "butter", I thought she was about to get beaten to death with a lead pipe.
Also, Eli's back, and skinny! He makes a good point too: how is Mickey stick alive? That snickering jaboni will outlive everyone, I bet.
Chalky's family life itself isike a whole other dimension. Enthralling television. Every episode should have him whittling wood, too.
P.s. Stephen Root!
