Oh wow I forgot I started this thread. Just finally started watching season 2. Unfortunately the guy who plays Axl in The Middle spoiled a certain death for me on his twitter at the time it happened which is why I was put off watching it for so long

When that door opened, and Harrow was on the other side, I couldn't help but smile. Manny was awesome, but I couldn't forgive him for killing Jimmy's wife. That was just f'd up.

Harrow is a f*ckin bad ass, my hero. seriously that guy has been my favorite character since he was introduced. well, him and Van Alden.

Van Alden! he's back baby. I mean he was sort of breaking down there for awhile. lost the wife, lost the job, ran off with the nanny and his whore lovechild. he's just dicking around Chicago selling irons and trying to make some money while he sorts his sh*t out, and suddenly he runs into the Chicago mob outfit just in time to save some guys ass from getting iced by Capone.

there's so many ways they can go with this. Van Alden is obviously going to become frustrated with the mundane bullsh*t of door-to-door salesman, he's going to go back and take that guy up on his offer of making some real money. he was a prohibition agent who now has the opportunity to go deep cover on his own, going rogue, or completely turn his back on his beliefs and get swept up in the criminal world.

I can see Nucky dying even if he is supposed to be the protagonist. Rosetti is awesome. I loled at his line at the party "that's OK, I wasn't really interested in finishing my thought". A hothead, but bound to be a very fun character.

Holy sh*t, I can't believe I felt bad for Van Alden as he was going door to door.

Rosetti calling everyone names was awesome. Rothstein (best character) being called "a kike midget creeping around like a dentist" or something to that effect was f*cking hilarious, and apt as hell.

My favorite was when he said "Why don't you go sit in the corner, short pants!" to Luciano. I hope Van Alden breaks bad, he'd make a very effective hitman for that Irish fella and his improv is impeccable, I probably just would've done a clean 180 if I walked in on a situation like that with Al Capone.

yeah man, Van Alden is actually one of the deepest and most complex characters in the whole show.

I don't care if characters are "good" or "bad," I just love characters that are highly intricate and difficult to figure out.
most people in the show are pretty straightforward, and that's fine. but Van Alden is easily the most ambiguous and least predictable of everyone who has ever appeared on Boardwalk. and that makes him incredibly interesting. not to mention that Michael Shannon is an amazing actor. watching him on screen is a real treat.

he steals whatever scene he's in.

Didn't think about that. I don't think he'd work for Nucky, though. He probably did it partially for Jimmy and partially for Jimmy's wife, since he had a thing for her.

that was 100% personal vengeance.

he was thinking about Angela and Jimmy while taking care of their boy all afternoon and then he started drinking at the whorehouse before the New Years party started. so it was all coming together at just the right time. he was like "f*ck this" and decided to go ice the Butcher.
