With the start of the season I'm really curious to see how Liverpool and Brendan Rodgers get on with their game. Against FC Gomel we saw high-pressure possession Barca-style. He also gave Gerrard a free role up front behind the strikers, contrary to Woy and Dalglish where Gerrard was mostly used strictly as a Xabi-esque midfielder, when in reality he should be up front behind the strikers as that's where he is best.

Brendan talks the talk and seems to walk the walk. I'm genuinely excited for the new season now, and am optimistic of a 4th place - if not, close. A good thing as well is that we haven't completely spunked our transfer budget on overpriced average sh*te. Allen was a tad expensive but thats okay because the kid oozes with class. Assaidi and Borini will both prove to be shrewd signings I'm sure.

Also, sorry for my insistence on calling Hodgson "Woy". In my first paragraph I had actually initially typed "Roy" before staring at it for 5 minutes, then quickly decided to delete the R and put a W whilst giggling like a girl.

Football focus woohoo! God I've missed football. They've just shown David Platt's overhead kick on man city's pre-season tour, got him some moves Balo and co had better watch out. Not sure about Peter Reid's shirt though.

@Nate: I'm thinking the same thing. He will most likely be loaned out but I've never heard of him before.

@Master of SA: The defence is where work is needed most. Not much attention was paid there though in this transfer window.

Yeah we need another CB imo. Evans is okay but nothing special and you know what Vidic, Rio and Smalling are like for injuries.

Maybe another LB too. If Evra is suspended or injured then we an actual left back to play to cover him.

yeah what i'm thinking but I said the same thing about a certain mexican, but this Chilean will be loaned

I think Fergie is happy with the defence, we have injury problems there now but Smalling and Jones are the youg CBs with good potential, Jones has huge potential, and Vidic is the rock at the back, with him we would have won the league last year, no question. Our central defence is fine when it is at full strength, 4 fine CBs and Johnny Evans who is a bit hit and miss, we do need a LB though, Evra is getting on and it shows.

No pressing need for a new CB until Rio retires IMO. We have ample, young, versatile and I would say proven cover.

LB is a worry. Evra has been an unstoppable playing machine in recent seasons. Barely misses a game. But now we have feck all cover for him, he's going to get an injury on Monday We'll have to kidnap Baines after the game.

When you are 2 down you bring on Joe Cole who hasnt played in the prem for quite a long time, even when Carroll is ready on the bench...who is a striker. A Striker is a player who scores goals. How he must be feeling right now, obviously will be going somewhere during this window.
