When are you getting rid of the horrid US bumpers?

When he can find bumpers, that he can afford, to replace them.

Whenever I have money, it will get Euro bumpers, staggered euro lights, M-tech front and rear spoilers (ala M5/M535/535is).

Like so

Until then, this is a very budget build of sorts and I will piece together sh*t as I have the money and find deals. The Euro bumpers require welding of the supports and as my welding skills aren't the best, I'd have to pay someone to do that too.

All mounted. They sold the BFG's so it still has the Aurora on the front passenger and has a Fuzion on front driver. Total of $235 on all 4 wheels and tires mounted and balanced right now.

Way it will look for the next good long while. Probably will not buy new centercaps and dust caps til December or so.

Ultimate driving machine is a car that you actually driving, and not some computer system...great example are Ferraris. all the driving is done by computers. Those are not ultimate driving machines. Some older classic powerful classics...those are ultimate driving cars.

Sounds like a vague copy of Clarkson's comparison of the F40 to the Scuderia.

Put 3" exhaust with a vibrant design stainless resonator 3" (12" long) and a 3" in/dual 2.5" out (6.5" long) performance curve single chamber on it. Cut the cat off too (it was empty anyway). $100 for the muffler and resonator and $100 for the pipe/welding job at the muffler shop. I'll admit, it's pretty loud, but not too bad, at least for me. Noticeably more power up high. Seems about the same in lower rpm range. Lot of drone but I knew that was coming and accept it. I like how it sounds. Can at least tell it's a 6 cylinder and not a Honda. And cold-weather driving was bugging me not being able to hear it with the windows up....fixed that. tounge.gif

Have a cold air intake coming for it. Not that I think it will be any of an improvement performance-wise, more want it for the sound. Also don't like how the stock box clutters up the engine compartment. Shouldn't hurt performance any. Plus I need a new air filter anyway. Will cut up an old battery box to put around the filter to keep it from being a heat sink.

Got centercaps for the Style 5's but need new dust caps to put them on the fronts. Probably going to have to order them from somewhere.

More or less how it should look with the cold air intake. Will free up a lot of space not having the valve cover mounted air box.

Threw the centercaps on the back to see how it looked.

user posted image

Ordered some E38 dust caps so hopefully the front will match it next weekend.

And how the exhaust looks from the back. Doesn't really hang any lower than the old muffler and doesn't come all the way out to the bumper like the old one making it somewhat more stealth-like.

user posted image

The way it's hung isn't the most aesthetically pleasing but was the easiest way to maintain the factory hanger location.

Get two chrome tips. That will hide the look of the muffler's box.

No. I'm fine with what it has now. Not spending anymore money on it.

Picked up another E38 Style 5 to replace my most rashed one. The rashed one is now a spare and has a 215/55R16 on it. Sold my old 15x7 Style 2's. Also picked up the more recessed E38 dust caps so I can put the E38 centercaps up front.

Threw a cold air intake on. I think any improvement over what I had is just because the filter is clean. It makes some sound over 4k but it's hard to hear over the exhaust.

user posted image

Also made an exhaust vid. Used a Gopro mounted from a few different locations.

Yeah, almost lost it at the 1:30 mark. Was not expecting that much wheelspin in 2nd gear. Especially since the pavement was still dry at the time.

Also, more pics.

Thanks man. Just added it up and I've spent about 600 bucks on this thing in the past 2 months. 3 times the initial cost of the car. 300 of that just on wheels and tires. Getting tired of spending money. Got it about where I want it now. Needs an oil change and a valve adjustment though. That's another 35 bucks. Oh well confused.gif

Indeed, what if another car would have driven the other lane? Lucky.
Only things i don't like about this BMW: 1) the bumpers are kinda weird, never seen something like this. They are very long and stick out. Are those something that only a certain country BMWs had? 2) Is it just the pic, or the tailpipes are not completelly centered. Its just a few cms off the center. It catches my eye. If it was more off, i wouldn't mind.
But overall a nice car, something i'd buy too.

Then I wouldn't have gassed on it. I had a clear view of the road before me before I put my foot into it.

US market bumpers. We had higher crash test standards at the time than anyone else.

Yes, all E28 exhaust are offset like this. It's the only way to run it with the way the gas tank and spare tire container are located.

That's the stock exhaust and it's pretty much the same way.

But us 'muricans really did made cars look f*cking weird in the name of safety.

Well changed oil, had rotors turned, and put the E38 dust caps and therefore front centercaps on. Bad picture. No room to get a good front angle.

I like the way it looks now. Spent almost 700 bucks on it in the past 2 months so I'm tired of messing with it for a while.
