okay, two questions 1) I got the Xperia Ray at the moment, sony provided an ICS update, I installed this yet I experience lots of stuttering, crashes, and reboots, hate it, is it possible to downgrade easily? 2) Since I work at Mediamarkt, I have a good view on the recent smartphones, yet none of them are to my liking, I'm now looking for a smartphone with the size of the Ray, and a dual core that can support ICS easily, a phone that caught my eye was the xperia SX (announced in Japan, yet has to be announced to go worldwide, but it looks awesome) any other suggestions for a small sized phone with med-high specs? (I want one with microSD slot and a decent camera!) I've been looking on the web myself but it seems to be quite impossible to find such a compact powerhouse, i always disliked the 4.3 inch smartphones because of their huge size, thought it'd be too big for me to like...but the htc one s doesn't seem so bad though but it has no micro SD and is pretty big, ah well, might think 'bout it This post has been edited by Law0070 on Thursday, Jun 14 2012, 19:32

| QUOTE (OverTheBelow @ Saturday, Jun 16 2012, 14:18) | The S3 is just too big imo. I have a friend with it and it just doesn't seem like a smartphone anymore. It's like a mini-tablet, smaller Galaxy Note esque thing. Only just fits in his pocket at squeeze, which is why I won't be getting it.
I hope this enormous size thing doesn't catch on and apply to all smartphones in a year or so. I like my pocket-sized device. |
to be entirely honest, I was skeptical too (see previous posts I made here - was about to buy a one S instead) but its so thin that you don't notice it in your pocket.. now its obviously a matter of what pants you wear, but I've never had any problem. if anything the older phone was worse because it was TWICE as fat as the s3. Then again I wear cargo pants mostly and not skinny hipster jeans :edit: Anyone know a good free app that does what iPhones do with "find my iPhone" feature? It seems like it would be so easy for the phone to just snap in half or rip your trousers; either that or restrict your movement somewhat (especially in jeans.. and not just the skinny types). Not to mention you'd look like a bit of a plonker holding that thing next to your face to make a call.

I'll be getting the GS3. It's part of a free phone program at work for attendance (perk for working at a cell company!). Sad part is, they can take a while to ship. And with pre-orders open on the phone it may be a bit before it's in my hands. I'm not worried about size, in fact I'm looking forward to it. I've already got the Galaxy Nexus and have had the RAZR, two of the biggest phones we have and those seem average to me. I'm quite sure the GS3 will feel normal after a couple days. At first I was disappointed to hear it's only got the S4 chip instead of the quad Exynos, but after reading some reviews I've heard the 2GB trade off allows the phone to operate just as well, better in some areas while worse in others. It should still be a quick device. I wish VZW were getting an HTC One X as I've heard nothing can compare with it's screen and that it's a extremely quick phone. But for the time being, the S3 is on the top of my list. I just got the Droid 4 the other day. Rooted it the first night, installed the leaked (6.14.208, latest) ICS ROM which improved things immensely. Going from ICS back to GB feels like going from Eclair back to Cupcake, for those that remember those days. Battery life is more than acceptable. I got 14 hours with moderate to high use yesterday and was left with 20% before I went to bed. The phone itself is quick, with autorotation working like a charm, something I feared when considering a phone with a hardware QWERTY. The G1 was the last/first phone I had with a HW QWERTY and I'm sure many of you have heard me ask for a phone just like the D4. It has delivered, along with the above things mentioned I must say the keyboard is excellent. At the worst it's a little bit cramped but nothing very hindering. The biggest thing is the learning curve. I've gone through a handful of touchscreen-only phones since I've last used a HW keyboard. The worst part? The screen. I'm used to 4.3+ inch screens, so this being 4" makes me put it closer to my face to read the text during web browsing. I find myself turning the phone into landscape mode just to fit zoomed in text on the page, something I've never really needed to do on the Galaxy Nexus. And as for the quality of 4" qHD TFT itself... is sub-par, at least when considering the other specs such as the 1.2Ghz dual core and 1GB RAM. If you didn't already know it says "LTE" vertically next to the 4G icon, you'd never be able to read it due to the lack of pixel density. The screen is reminiscent to that of the Moto Backflip/Devour. Not as bad, but jeez it's no comparison to the Gnex or even it's bigger brother, the RAZR. I also find that when sliding around a webpage that you get a thickening kind of blur around letters making it tough to scan the page as you scroll/slide through it. Kind of frustrating. Outside of the screen though, it's an excellent phone. I like how less MotoBlur stands out with ICS, yet it still has a MotoDroid feel to it. If you're on VZW and need a phone with a HW keyboard, I'd recommend this phone hands down. edit: In case someone says something, yes I know I go through phones like a hooker does chapstick. Since I've joined VZW I've had the Droid X, Droid 2, Incredible 2, Thunderbolt, RAZR, Galaxy Nexus, Droid 4, and as mentioned will have the GS3 soon... in the span of 2 years (minus 1 week). As I said, it's a perk of working in the industry. Along with that having the Acer A500 and now the Xoom... think I qualify as an Android & tech nut?? | QUOTE (matthew1g @ Thursday, Jun 21 2012, 06:24) | this is what I meant when I said I don't like samsung using plastics!

it slipped out of my pant's pocket onto the pavement. Its not even a week old. so mad right now.. and I can't find a replacement bezel | Metal isn't that much better if you drop it, I don't mind the plastic back cover, but i kinda do agree the sides would be better if they were metal. But to be fair, you should have a case unless you are sure you won't drop it, and if you knew it was plastic you can't complain too much , besides if you don't have a case it would have gotten scratched up in your pocket over-time by rocks and stuff anyway. But yeah i see your point.
