Hi guys!

Sorry for openning a new topic for it, but i didn't find any posts about this.

Few days ago i made my *.wft files handled by Spark IV. ( I mean like *.jpg for example, if you double-click on it, it will open by Windows Image Viewer. ) But, my *.wtd files are opening with Adobe Reader.. at least it tries to open it. After this, i replaced a car in my vehicles.img, rebuilt the archive, but the game crashes to desktop after the copyright bullsh*t loading screen. Windows 7 says 'GTA IV has stopped working'
Well i tried it with the original vehicles.img without any car mods, nothing happened, exept ont thing, there were no cars on the streets. Nowhere. After these i reinstalled the whole game, and tried to run it, without any modding, just only the 1.0.3 patch. It was good, ran about 1 minute, than it crashed to desktop again, and i got the error: 'GTA IV FATAL ERROR: SMPA60 Unrecoverable Fault - Please restart the game.' Restarted, but still got this f*cking error.

So guys, if anybody met this already, please help.

Lookin forward to get some solution.
Thanks

PS. Sorry for my bad english. ( Is it rly bad?! )

you cant fking open those wtd files with any other tool then gta4 tools lol.

Replace the modded filkes back with back ups, those errors come from modding things wrong.

Yes, i know i can only open with gta tools. But accidentally i clicked on adobe sh*t, not spark iv, and after that i couldn't set spark iv, cause it wasn't let me. ( Right click on file -> Properties -> General Tab - Opens With: )

Other:

I updated to 1.0.4.0, SMPA60 error gone, but still crashes to desktop with an error 'GTA IV has stopped working'.
I have no problems with this game since i bought it at the shop. Changed cars, textures, visual tweaks were applied, and the game was running like an angel. ( avg 30-40 FPS at daytime, no errors, no crash, no bullsh*t. )

I think you'll need to reinstall the game and then reapply the mods. But do test if the game works before changing anything.

Also, note that some filecheck fixes (.asi loaders) are not compatible with the latest patch, i.e. they need to be updated.

I reinstalled the game 3 times, once with mods and patch 1.0.3(dont work), once without mods, with patch 1.0.3(dont work) and once without anything, just patch 1.0.4. (dont work).

But before this i have patch 1.0.3, and mods installed, and my game was fine. So i think it will be something around this sh*tty file association thingy.. i mean i shouldn't had to change the 'opens with' line in the properties panel for the wft and wtd files.. But i cant undo the changes to the original, just with a fresh install of windows. (but i rly dont want to reinstall the os... )

So i still got the error 'gta iv has stopped working' after a few minutes of play.

I have the latest NVidia driver installed. (190.38)

Thank you for your posts anyway

This is probably a registry error. There is probably some issue with some/all of these keys

CODE
[HKEY_CLASSES_ROOT\.wft]
[HKEY_CLASSES_ROOT\.wtd]
[HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion\Explorer\FileExts\.wft]
[HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion\Explorer\FileExts\.wtd]

Have you manually deleted the installation dir after uninstalling the game and before reinstallation? Have you deleted the settings folder?

I deleted the C:\Program Files\Rockstar Games dir after uninstall. Do you mean i have to delete the folder C:\Users\User\My Documents\GTA IV? But i dont want to lose my savegames. And where can i find this settings dir you've mentioned?

it is a fking error you get wit modding wrong, replace the modded files with the backups you should have made.

But as i said, i have a fresh install, just patched the game to 1.0.3! No mods, no filecheck, no asi loader, just the pure patched game.

Yes, but why 1.0.3? There is a new patch that fixes memory issues.

K, but i neet asi loaders, and as i know, 1.0.4 doesnt support any mods. i got the error 'gta iv has stopped working' and crash to desktop with patch 1.0.4 too. And until i changed file associations, the game with patch 1.0.3 and mods ran very well.

Mods for 1.0.4.0 are supported (AFAIK), but you need to track down your issues before applying any mods.

The extension association is not the cause of this, something else happened in the meantime. Have you installed anything lately?

Sorry if I mentioned this before (these threads do tend to kinda blend lol), but have you tried cleaning up the drivers?

Windows7 maybe install it's default driver. You can go to device manager, choose dispaly adapter and your GPU in the list, right click uninstall and then (I think) you can select the "Delete driver" checkbox. After that restart and maybe run sweeper once again.
