Remember when L.A.Noire was announced in 2006 and when the first revelation was made in 2009. During the silent 4 years, many thought that it was canceled, but they turned out to be wrong. It took all that time mainly because Motionscan tech took the first 2-3 years of production to be developed, and casting didn't start until 2009. During these silent years, Rockstar and Take2 confirmed from time to time that L.A.Noire is still in development which is exactly what's happening now to Agent. |
Yeah, I completely agree with you. I've been said this several times, but I'm going to say it again: R* will release AGENT one year later after they released GTA V. I have a strong feeling in this. I'm a big fan of espionage and Cold War stuff. I'm so happy when my favorite game devs announced that they will make a game based on that subject. | This is what I thought, it is easy to think it's been shelved, but there have been long silences before, and we did see those very early screenshots leaked a while ago.

By shelved I don't mean cancelled I just mean that it sits very low on the priorities list. Rockstar seems to have a policy of only releasing one game a year accross all of their studios since Beaterator and (to a lesser extent) Chinatown wars flopped partly due to being released in the same year as The Lost and Damned and The Ballad of Gay Tony (and/or vice versa). This means that the two games that we know are probably coming after GTA V - Agent and Bully 2 will likely not be released until 2014 (with V obviously being released next year). In my view Agent should definitely be ready to be released since at that point they will have been working on it for 7 years (or more). By that time it could be a Next Gen release. We have no confirmation that a second Bully is actually in production but Houser did say that there will be a new installment in the future. In my opinion there is no reason to release it on next gen consoles since the cartoony nature of the graphics are one of the series selling points. So in summary I'm thinking GTA V will be released in 2013, Bully 2 in 2014 (on current gen consoles) and Agent will be released at some point thereafter (probably on next gen consoles). After that we will probably see Red Dead 3 and Max Payne 4 and possibly a new addition to the Midnight Club series.. who knows.

It's a linear stealth action game. | Not true. We don't know anything, really anything, about the linearity aspect of the game. So far, we only know that its story takes place during the late times of the seventies, at the peak of the cold war, where political assassinations and espionage serve the theme of the game.

Not true. We don't know anything, really anything, about the linearity aspect of the game. So far, we only know that its story takes place during the late times of the seventies, at the peak of the cold war, where political assassinations and espionage serve the theme of the game. | They haven't confirmed anything yet but I can't imagine that a game that is supposed to "take the player across the globe in the world of counter-intelligence, espionage and political assassinations" will be open-world, because it would be a hell of a large map lol. If the game is open-world, which I seriously doubt, then I'm sure we will be able to free-roam the cities that the player visits. I heard for example the some parts of the game will take place in Cairo, Egypt. That would be an interesting city to explore. Another reason why I think Agent will be a linear game is that I heard some unconfirmed rumours that R* North initially had plans for Manhunt 3, but they were dropped because of all the negative controversy that Manhunt 2 stirred up. But they still wanted to do a stealth action game, so they decided to create a new franchise instead and implement many of the stealth features that they originally had in mind for Manhunt 3.
