The studio behind Grand Theft Auto and Manhunt is making Agent just for Sony's console, Sony announced today during the company's E3 media briefing.
A Rockstar press release followed: Rockstar founder Sam Houser described Agent as the "ultimate action game."
According to the game's press release, "Agent takes players on a paranoid journey into the world of counter-intelligence, espionage and political assassinations during the height of the Cold War at the end of the 1970s."
No other details were provided and the only visual released so far is the game's logo.
This follows up on an announcement made a couple of years ago about a coming PS3 Rockstar exclusive. Some had expected that game to be L.A. Noire, but instead it is the previously unheard of Agent.
New York, NY – June 2, 2009 - Rockstar Games, a publishing label of Take-Two Interactive Software, Inc. (NASDAQ: TTWO), is proud to announce Agent. Developed by the people behind Grand Theft Auto, Rockstar North, Agent will be available exclusively for the PLAYSTATION®3 computer entertainment system.
"We have always enjoyed making action games, and with Agent we are making what we believe will be the ultimate action game," said Sam Houser, Founder of Rockstar Games. "Agent is a game we have wanted to make for a long time. The team in Edinburgh is doing an amazing job combining intense action, atmosphere and story in a great period setting to create something that feels quite unique. We cannot wait for people to experience this game."

I would like to a series that follows the spy through his career with whatever organization he is working for. Sort of like James Bond. The first game could be set in the 1970s, during the Cold War then the next game in the 1980s and then the 1990s and so on and so on. I think that would be an interesting way to keep the series alive and fresh.

According to Boomtown it will be developed by some R* team in Edinburg. The big question for me is whether this game will be developed by the team behind GTA or not. And if it is, will it mean that the next GTA gets pushed back or that the GTA series are completely finished?

Rockstar North (based in Edinburgh) were the team who develop Grand Theft Auto games, yes. However they are capable of creating more than one game at a time just like any other developer. I don't think GTA NeXt will be pushed back at all because I'm pretty sure it has been in the works for a long time already. They have done it in the past and I'm pretty sure they can do it again.

I hope R* turn this into a series exclusive to the ps3!
Would it be so bad if they released it for other platforms?
Blu-Ray means they can fit more onto the disk and also means less compressed textures (if any) and more features, vehicles....all in high quality. Blu-Ray = Win.
This game is obviously going to be good...it is coming from Rockstar afterall. I wouldn't worry about GTA being pushed back too far, they can develop two games at the same time.

In that case PC exclusives = win
Why? Not every PC comes with a Blu-Ray player. Unless you're talking about the whole 'package the game on 5 discs' crap.
I am excited for this game but is L.A. Noire a dead project? And if so do you think R* North will turn their back on Agent too, I'm actually hyped for this one.
