Rockstar San Diego is kicking the dirt off its boots and returning to the American west with Red Dead Redemption. Developed using Rockstar's proprietary RAGE engine, the sequel to 2004's Red Dead Revolver promises an open-world complete with "strong plotlines in a massive vibrant, rural environment" when it pulls into town this fall for both the PlayStation 3 and Xbox 360.
Few gameplay details have been revealed regarding the upcoming title, which looks to cast players not in the role of Revolver's bounty hunter lead Red Halow but instead a former outlaw named John Marston during the turn of the 20th century. Open world. A bad guy turned good. Just throw in Miss Kitty and her band of hookers and we're all set for GTA in the Wild West. Yee haw!
Red Dead Redemption will be available in fall 2009 for the Xbox 360 and PLAYSTATION 3 consoles
haha, very nice, wild west version! if the setting would be country side, only minimal houses and such, who can they probably make a long gametime out of this

I'm glad we've finally heard something about this. It's been years since that bit of western footage was first shown. I never finished Red Dead Revolver. It's just one of those games that I always meant to get back to but never did.
I hope it's proper free-roam open world because that's the reason I prefered Gun to Red Dead Revolver. Gun somehow felt more GTAish to me because I could just ride off and do my own thing.
Looking forward to seeing how it turns out.

Ok so if this is the western project they showed at E3 07' which they said was a glimpse of a PS3 exclusive from Rockstar Games and they say its on 360 now, WTH is the PS3 exclusive??

Those screens look excellent. I'm looking forward to horsejacking and doing ridebys on the local whorehouse. I hope there will be a posse control system.
It will be an 'open world' game, based on RAGE... doesn't that suggest anything? Like 'Bully' was based in part on the GTA III style engine, would there be a chance this game would run on (parts of a) GTA IV engine? If it would be like Bully-ish concept transition, I most certainly will buy it once it gets to around the 35 euro price point in retail... which strangely is when I start buying console games

This made my day. Finally a real open-world western (not discounting Gun, but it felt empty after you beat it). Hopefully, they'll pull this one off right.

I just recently played Red Read Revolver and it was just freaking awesome. The duels and showdowns in general were badass. I can't wait for this one though, open-world style? Bring it on.
