Ok, so I just got done beating this game, so I notice at the end of the game, like Maria is talking to Claude and then I notice like right at the very end of the game, the screen just fades black and the game just ends with a gunshot and then Maria is silenced after this, so, I guess, does this leave me to assume that Claude kills Maria??? That's a kind of weird ending for a game......I spent the whole last mission saving Maria's ass, only to kill her at the end??? lol

After you've completed the game, listen to Chatterbox. I believe you hear Maria saying something about Claude.

I reckon it's just to shut her up. It wouldn't make sense that Claude kills her for no reason.

Unless he's so cold, that he wants the whole world dead except himself. Anyways, I think this gunshot was only to either end the game's story or to warn Maria to shut up.

You, sir, have just echoed what many members before you have said. This might be the quote this forum has seen the most.

Yeah, no one knows for sure. This has been debated about in at least hundreds of topics before. You know just as much as anyone else here does.

@GTA1: Right, but you'd hear that at any point in the game. This was before they implemented the "unlockable" radio clips. Dunno if I'd considered that solid proof.

Chatterbox is a looped .wav file.It is not broadcasting in realtime.

Yes claude kills maria because at the end of the game maria doesnt stop talking and the gunshot you hear does kill maria. I also have read in some book that claude shoots her for some peace and quiet.

It's an iffy subject. Some people beleive Claude killed her, some don't. It's really a matter of your imagination.

During the last mission when you go and deliver the money to Catalina to free Maria at the mansion, Catalina skrews you over and tells her guards to shoot you insted of freeing maria like she said she would if claude brought her the money. Catalina asks claude before he is about to get ambushed if he had really come back to free maria or to get revenge on her. since claude cant talk to respond we belive that he went back to free maria, but...

Claude shoots and kills maria becasue its simple, he didint care about saving her, he really wanted revenge on catalina, which he did.

That radio clip is played right at the start of the game before Maria even meets him.

I think it's safe to say that Claude shot her. Who cares if he did anyway?

well,maybe a direct sequel of gta 3 would tell us if whether or not maria is really dead.or was claude arrested and put in cryonic sleep until gta 2 happened ?

Maria died of two reasons:

1.She wouldnt shut the hell up.
2.Characters cant follow you after passing a mission so R* found a way to remove her.

Nah, she wasn't killed, it was just a way to end the game, with a burst from the old shotgun.

i think nixion got it right. is seems as if all claude was after was revenge.
wen catalina says" .......to save maria or to get me back... killing you will be a pleasure but dating you was only buisness" i think this implies she thought he wanted her back not to get her back.

i think claud wanted revenge , he kills cat, rescues maria(who de dusnt seem to like all that much) she chews his ear off, and he shoots her just because shes annoying. its pretty funny.

The more important reason would be to get back at her for screwing him up with Salvatore back in Portland. "Why didn't he just kill her earlier", you ask? The same reason why he didn't kill Catalina in the missions Cutting the Grass and Grand Theft Aero. Or maybe I'm just drinking too much coffee. Either way, thats Claude for yuh.

You're drinking too much coffee. It would be idiotic for Claude to kill Maria, just after killing 30 gang members and taking down a chopper. The gun shot was just to signal the end of the main missions.
