Since I got this unit from M$ it's been great. No problems before the NXE, and since getting the $20 HDD there have been no problems. Course this one and most new and refurbished units carry the newer Falcon chipset which runs much cooler than the previous ones.

If you have a first gen unit, then you prolly will see it a bit as it creeps closer to the wretched RRoD. If it's a newer Falcon unit, it may just be the disc drive.

Nice ~ that's the one that's shipping to me right now.. Great to know it's a newer, cooler model as I like to keep my console cool / ventilated.

GTA IV takes up 6.7GB of the 20GB... I'll be throwing Dark Sector's 3.4GB on there too, which gives me 9.9GB left - it may seem like that sucks taking up half the space, but it's a lot better than the 39MB left on my Memory Unit

Because that's the video card in the xbox, and guess what?? My hd 3850 freezes GTA IV too. Hard lock. As well as a few other things.

It's ATI drivers. Or something. HAve xbox been getting updates (don't have one)?

I think it's ATI cards... That's my honest opinion, because I will never buy another ATI product for the rest of my life after the hell I have been through trying to make this HD 3850 work. Turns out, it's not heat, not PSU, not my computer, but ATI's drivers that are to blame.

Sort of OT: If I buy an xbox, should I get an arcade and buy a hard drive or should I get an elite or just the middle one? Honestly, which one is the best for my money? Is elite a waste of money at this point? All I want it for is Rockstar games and watching movies. Which is better for me? Thanks guys.

The ATI drivers (which my computer also uses) may be a serious idea as to what's wrong.

If you want to get the best out of Xbox 360 for the cheapest price, purchase an Arcade for $199.99, and then buy a refurbished 20GB hard drive for $19.99 from xbox.com/storage.
The same hard drive is $60 at Gamestop.

Also I wouldn't buy any kind of used 360, because they're probably older models (indicated by the silver disc tray) and who knows where they've been. A new Arcade 360 is one hell of a deal, especially getting a hard drive so cheaply. The only sacrifice is waiting for the hard drive to arrive, which only takes a couple business days. Also, the Arcade is bundled with free games (although the others may be as well, but again you're getting more for paying less).

I haven't had freezing, but I have had horrendous slow down in particular areas (such as the power plant in Alderney) after getting NXE and installing the game to the hard drive. I mean, it was BAD.

Installing GTA IV to the Hard Drive DOES NOT HELP AT ALL. In fact, it causes many more problems, especially when it comes to pop up.

The whole "NXE" is Microsoft trying to play catch up and steal everyone else's ideas again. That's all they are good for anyway.

I agree 100%

I THOUGHT it would help solve the pop up issues after installing to hard drive, but it only made the problem slightly better, if at all. In addition, it also caused other graphical glitches. IE - While going through the "Booth" tunnel it almost always blacked out everthing except other cars. Once I uninstalled it from the HDD, that problem went away and it's been smooth sailing since.

I had my machine crash once during start up, but that was it. Since the update my Xbox seems to be working fine.

Mine seems to freeze on an interval. 30-36 minutes. I install it from a clean disc, and I cleared my cache. Still freezes with the same interval. Running EFLC, Ballad of Gay Tony.
