Hi , i get an error message "Failed to release securom license" when i try to unistall GTA 4. It wont let me uninstall or re-install, the message pops up and then it kicks me out. i've tried several things, cleaning registry, revoking the serial number, unistalling with "remove software" in control panel, etc. I've also tried the suggestion of someone who had this problem in this forum and didn't say how he fixed it, installing the game in another computer and then copying the files. Didn't work for me either.

I have Vista 64, core 2 duo 2.4, 4mb ram, 9800 gx2.

Please help me remove this.

Thanks for your help

Crap. The PC I had IV on is done and taken apart. I never uninstalled it because it failed to boot and a windows file corrupted. I hope I don't have any trouble installing it on my new PC.

You wont but you only have 4 activations left. remember to always revoke them...

Well, I have the exactly same problem but I DON'T have another computer to copy the files from. What can I do? confused.gif
I ran CCleaner and all but no effect. Still only Remove, Modify and Repair options and with remove, all I get is "Failed to release securom license".

Thanks in advance.

Reinstalling Windows seems to be the only option right now...

There is a shortcut in the games main directory on installation for me called "Revoke Licence".

Its target is simply "Install Drive:\Program Files\Rockstar Games\Grand Theft Auto IV\LaunchGTAIV.exe" /revoke

I presumed you need to run that before doing the actual game un-install but don't see it mentioned in the ReadMe.txt or anywhere else, maybe its supposed to be automated during a normal un-install but its [CENSORED]? It wouldn't surprise me.

have had the same problem, days and days of research and finally:

solved:

use spybot 1.62, go to advanced, then tools and finaly uninstall info, find the uninstaller entry of gta4, delete it.

All that secureRom bullsh*t goes away. Just reinstall the game.

To remove SecuROM here a solution that works very well with EA's SecuROM install...

http://forums.guru3d.com/showthread.php?threadid=203200

Once Securom is removed ALL games that use it apparently stop working use at own risk blah blah. I used it and it was fine fer me.

GLAMBRO IS RIGHT! Finally, after so many attempts and tones of research,I've managed to reinstall GTA. A small step for me,a huge step for humanity smile.gif) So,if you have the securom license problem when trying to uninstall gta IV in order to reinstall, use spy bot, advanced mode, tools, uninstall info and just delete the gta entry. THANKS A LOT GLAMBRO!! biggrin.gif

According to R* Toronto, retail version doesn't have limited number of installations/activations. Only Steam version is limited to 5 activations, while retailers in some countries may also have enforced a limit.

Check your system date. You've most probably set it wrong.

Use Revo Uninstaller to get rid of all the hidden files. It's free to download and worked just fine for me. http://www.revouninstaller.com/
Be sure to get the free version. cool.gif

unless he's used up the windows live activations, no revoke tool for that and you'll be lucky to get any revoke over phone support.. if it wasn't for MP this would cause much more piracy..
