Just got the game today on PC and i have a problem where the graphics stuff up and go all black...
It works fine on all my other games and occasionally on GTA IV but sometimes when i boot the game up it stuffs up like this...

Ive added some screen shots of the problem as well as the settings i have it on (which are default)

Screenshots:
1. http://i60.photobucket.com/albums/h3/liam_...17-33-31-68.jpg
2. http://i60.photobucket.com/albums/h3/liam_...17-33-56-34.jpg
3. http://i60.photobucket.com/albums/h3/liam_...17-34-10-15.jpg
4. http://i60.photobucket.com/albums/h3/liam_...17-34-21-87.jpg

I know its not because of the system requirements because this is my setup:

MB – Asus Rampage Formula
CPU – Q6600 @ 3ghz
Ram – 4GB OCZ ReaperX
GFX – ATI 4870
HDD – 2x 640GB
PSU – Thermaltake 850W
OS - Windows XP 64bit

I have updated my drivers for my graphics card but it didn't help...
Has any one got any other suggestions??

Cheers

He means, you right click on GTA 4 in the steam browser, then properties, lauching settings, and type -norestrictions.

But this doesn't work at all smile.gif

Okay.. for anyone else that's having this problem I think I have fixed it now...

All I did was update my .NET Framework to the newest version which was v3.5 SP1

Seems to be working fine... so far lol

I got about same system as fisz. It meets minimum requirement but not recommended and with all settings low its not playable, fps less than 10 and you cant play at all because draw distance is so low.

I've already ordered more memory 2 -> 4 gt ddr2 and better graphic card (nvidia 7650 256mb to nvidia 9-series 512 mb) but wonder how much it can do because its not even playable on minimum settings right now.

And why it works better on PS that got much less resources? Lazy work from rockstar, from now on I know to wait 1-2 years after release so that everything gets fixes and not waste 40 euros for nothing.

I think that Nvidia has some bugs in their last drivers: 178,xx!
Stay turned on Nvidia.com and Rockstar Support!

The problem is... I have EXACTLY the same issue, and an ATI Radeon 4850.
I have the LATEST DirectX, .NET, drivers for my video (8.11).

What am I supposed to do? This really is not funny.

Rockstar posted a guide to this.

here -

it's dowe the page where it says:

Owners of Nvidia 7900 Series Cards - Click here for critical information about graphics issues.
Users Running 3rd Party Graphics Performance Tuners - Click here if experiencing missing textures.
Owners of ATI Series Cards - Click here for a fix to image quality (blacked-out textures) with certain MipMap detail settings are used.
Owners of ATI 1900 Series - At present the shadows may flicker and form large triangles in some instances. A patch will be released soon to correct this issue.

I know you guys have Nvidia cards, but it's the same problem - maybe you can do something similar in your Nvidia Control center.

is it not possible in any way to go over these stupid settings?

i have crossfirex and have the HD3870x2 and HD3870 in crossfire mode
both are somewhere in the 800Mhz config and i can clock em even much higher
how does this implicate that i have just 500 for memory, its not right
user posted image

the -norestrictions doesnt work and to press "p" ingame is just a "dumbass-feature-to-hide-no-antialising-key" making the quality even worse

without the P key
user posted image

WITH the P key
user posted image

its hard to see cuz these are png images but with the p key in use its all blurry, its horrible to look at and to play with
i have no lag it runs real smooth
but the graphics are gross if i may say it

INGAME SHOT resolution back to 1280x1024 60hz
view distance is now 64
