What's the worst thing that can happen ... that you have no control over?

I just tried the off-road mission Gripped
It was about 12:00 so there was plenty of daylight, it was a sunny day.

But just after I got the one by Catalina's mansion and headed for the really off-road part of the course - it started raining

I managed to get the one on the impossibly steep slope (more by luck than judgement). It probably wasn't very wet by then.

But as I crested the highest point and got the target there I started to slide down - and couldn't stop. I tried turning, I tried braking and reverse gear, I tried the handbrake, but nothing would stop me. That wet grass is very slippery stuff!

I slid all the way, not just off the hillside, but all the way down to the first house in that road.
That's a long slide!



Another entry for the "Don't ya hate it when ..." would be when I did the unique jump in Pike Creek, Shoreside Vale where you have to jump into the fenced off enclosure. Because you can't see the enclosure as you take off it's easy to:
1. Fall short
2. Aim it wrong and miss the enclosure to the right or the left
3. (The most annoying) Land in the enclosure but hit the ramp in there and pop right out again

But no, I'd not done any of those. I landed perfectly in the enclosure, without too much damage. I stopped there and was awarded the Unique Jump

As the car wasn't damaged too much I thought I'd use the ramp to drive out. Just as I did so a lorry was passing. So I landed on the roof of that lorry and went straight down the cliff! I didn't manage to stop on the lower dam road and went straight into the river

I always like to finish the game without being busted and without any hospital visits - so I had to forfeit the unique jump and do it all over again. From now on I think I'll always leave the enclosure on foot and take the damage as I jump off the wall.

Don't ya hate it when while racing or trying to chase someone the peds are jumping just right under your car. Sometimes this makes it unstable on high speeds and you losing control. Especially annoying while completing Turismo.

Don't ya hate it when cops are appear from nowhere - sometimes just looking into empty valley make then appear and run to you. But if you turning view away fast and bringing it back the cops disapper and some new ones appear at another positions! That annoying in ssv much more then anywhere else.

Don't ya hate when peds seeing you fire bazooka or throwing grenades starting attack you? This mostly annoying while grenade\bazooka rampages. Once upon a time i raged with tank through ssv firing to back to gain speed and what you think? I stuck for a second near building corner and that blue-clothed, black-glassed ped hijacked me out of tank! After few seconds army tank appeared while Claude rested on asphalt, soldier came out and shoot sh*t out of me within a moment.

Don't ya hate when small objects like boxes, fences or postboxes making your car completely stop from any speed. Sometimes without causing a bit of damage!

The timed mission in Portland aswell, right beside Salvatore's mansion you have to drive off a part of the cliff, like 6-7 meters high. Can't go too slow cus' the jeep will tip over itself and can't go too fast cus' you'll go flyin' over the cliff edge!

dont ya hate it when on that mission where u have to blow up those drug stands and it doesnt tell you where they are?

until i found out i can just drive around to look for them before blowing up the first one

I love those off-road missions, especially the two in the Patriot - Patriot Playground around the back of Salvatore's mansion and Gripped around the hills in Shoreside Vale.

I find it amazing how steep a cliff those Patriots can climb - as long as it isn't raining, that really affects their characteristics, especially their ability to grip the surface.

Generally I find them a great test of skill, control and timing

For that last target in Patriot Playground, I find it's best to go all the way back past Salvatore's mansion and then you can come at the ledge from the side rather than going straight down onto it. That's OK as long as you have a few seconds to spare - but that's part of the test.

Similarly with going for the last target in Gripped. If you have enough time to spare then go round the other side of it and it's an easy drive along the ledge. But if you're short of time then it has to be the "Hail Mary" launch over the edge, hoping you hit the target on the way down

I hated it when you got 6 stars, and you were doing fine avoiding tanks, but you roll your car or get stuck, so the soldiers get out of the tank and the M16's destroy you.
