| QUOTE (Masterkraft @ Oct 10 2008, 00:28) | | The basics are that a science professor finds out he has terminal, inoperable lung cancer so he decides to cook crystal meth with an ex-student who's ran off the rails, and then sell it to pay for his treatment. |
Actually, he could care less about the treatment or if he dies. He knows it's inevitable so he's resorting to using his knowledge of chemicals and an ex-student who he knows to be in the drug trade to make money for the family he'll be leaving behind. He has a handicaped son, a wife, and a baby on the way. So, he's trying to make as much as he possibly can so they have a nest egg when he's gone. I watched the first season some months back, I was mad that it was so short, but then I discovered it ended with only the few episodes it had because of the Writer's Strike. It has been greenlit for a longer second season early in '09, so I'll be waiting as there is still so much more of the story. And Bryan Cranston, the lead actor from the series, won his 1st Emmy for this show for Lead Actor in a Drama Series. He was nominated twice I think for his role as Hal, the dad from Malcom in the Middle, but never won. Then he transitions over to drama and BOOM, he wins an Emmy his first nomination, beating out a lot of good actors like John Hamm from Mad Men who I thought had it in the bag. Good for him though, he earned it. There were so many great moments in the 1st season. Like him shaving his head, and going all Taxi Driver by tossing a f*cking explosive chemical at the floor and practically blowing up the office. And just to make a point to the dealer that he's not to be f*cked with. Awesome...

MAJOR BUMP.
So, is anyone else watching this f*cking glorious show? The 2nd season finale airs tonight, and what an amazing season this has been. This is one of the best shows on television right now. In terms of acting, writing, and overall presentation. I don't see why Bryan Cranston can't win a 2nd emmy for this. Walt has been more conflicted, more gripping, more torn-apart than ever this season. And if anyone has been watching, you'd know why. Same goes for Anna Gunn, who plays Skylar. I think she'll be getting a Best Actress nomination. She was so good this season. And hell, same goes for Aaron Paul who plays Jesse. He really sold it this season.
The last episode was utterly fantastic. The ending was just, wow. This is such a satisfying show, it really is. And it's great that this season is twice as long as the first. That's given us a huge variety of episodes, from the more fast-paced, action episodes to the slowed down, character examination pieces. And I've loved every one. This season has fleshed out the characters even more. It's kind of crazy to think about all the stuff that has gone down.
Walt, Hank, Walt Jr. aka Flynn, Skylar, Jesse, and a slew of others have all gotten great screen time. It's just amazing to see a little more of them revealed with each episode.
If you are not watching this show, shame on you. START. That is all.

Definitely one of the best shows on television.
Everything about the story is very fluid and dynamic...Walt's situation is outlandish to say the least, but the writing and the acting both portray the cast as very real, very human people. More so than other shows, I think, Breaking Bad succeeds at getting you invested in its plot and cast; you revel in their little victories (don't tell me I was the only one who felt all warm and fuzzy when Jane first holds Jesse's hand) and wallow with them in defeat.
Speaking of defeat...there's a sh*tload. This is one of the few shows that I can say keeps getting better and better every episode and really mean it, and that has a lot to do with the fact that we're constantly reminded of how easy it is for things to go wrong. I mean, consider that little mushy moment I just mentioned and then look back on last week's episode...the show recognizes all the maybe's and what if's of how events could turn out, but instead of giving the characters what they want, they keep taking away. It's solemn, sure, but it makes for a more entertaining show, and it emphasizes how truly f*cked up the illegal drug trade can be. Whereas Weeds maintained a kind've comic goofiness to its comedy (which has a lot to do with the subject matter), Breaking Bad's is darker and (if I may whore an overwhored term) grittier...which is reflective of the fact that it deals with harder drugs.
I'm pretty stoked on the finale. If this season is any indicator, should be crazy intense...and I'm guessing it'll end with a cliffhanger. I wonder who's gonna die?
Oh, and Badger's f*cking dope. Since his appearance on the show I've seen him in a Wii commercial and an AM PM spot...it's rad. Saul's just as awesome, and twice as shady. He's like what Ken Rosenberg would be if Ken Rosenberg wasn't a bitch.
