My initial thought is that it's because of being some sort that's only viable on PC. Off their record these past several years, can't say I'm jumping with joy about it. But, who knows, maybe they'll really turn things around and dispel my skepticism, we'll see..

The reason that they're doing a game at all is really a tech demo for other companies to get them to stick with the UTx engine for upcoming games. They don't have to sell a ton, this is really marketing for the engine. And to really show off the engine, you need new hardware... hardware that exists on the PC and doesn't exist on the consoles yet. When the developers that buy the engine will be releasing game the new consoles WILL be available, and probably capable of most of what Epic shows off in their game.

Jokes aside they do make quality games. Half Life and the Left 4 Dead games are my favourite out of them all. Can't wait to try CS:GO

That is my old system. I still use it for older titles, storage etc. But I recently moved it to my country house. I used to overclock that Q6600 to 3.6ghz with ease.

my PC has basically been sh*tty for the past couple months. in the last week or so it's just been impossible to play games on it. as soon as i would start playing a game my PC would just sh*t its pants and give me about 1 FPS and just completely unable to play a game.

so i figured i would dust it out. it's been a long time since i have and holy crap as soon as i opened the case i could tell why it was acting up so bad. every fan was covered in dust and the heatsinks for my CPU and video card basically had a sheet of dust over them. i couldn't even tell what they were at first.

spent about an hour dusting everything and getting it all out. started up a game and it was so smooth. it's crazy how much of an impact dust can have.

Very nice, you must have ran the games very well with that kind of power, Q6600 is a great CPU.

Maybe they planned to do the third but then they picked up IceFrog, Turtle Rock + TF2 popularity...

@ Indi: There are 2 versions of Q6600. One doesn't overclock well at all. I was lucky to get the one that does. It is still a great CPU for the price. That system can still run most games on medium-high settings. It's equipped with ASUS EAH 4850 1Gb and 2x2Gb DDR2 800mhz RAM. It's old, but still A LOT more powerful than consoles. I used to run Crysis on very high with some modified settings with stable 30 fps at least. No AA and AF though. I loved tweaking it for FPS more than I liked playing it.

^Hah, may be a sliver of truth to that, yeah.

I'm hoping it'll be a full, proper Half-Life 3, after so many years. Blindingly obvious or not, perhaps a significant factor is waiting on the next gen consoles (specs and dev kits rather, not the actual console releases), as it'll surely be on them simultaneously or ported soon after, so that it can be more revolutionarily special like HL and HL2 were. PC will still be the 'lead' platform and superior version, but having consoles that are far closer to current PC tech will of course be a big boon to what they can achieve.

Interesting . I'm thinking of upgrading my CPU soon to be honest, I've had it for about 3 years now. I got the AMD Phenom Mark II 810 processor.
