I'm actually going to create an air box around it later on, then it can pick up air from the little intake on the EVO hood.

That would be pretty damn cool, but you'll really have to watch out for rain. tounge.gif

True. I can't leave my bug uncovered because of its scoop or else rainwater will get in.

Actually, you could help with the water issue with an Outerwears pre-filter, or you could try finding some of the fabric they use and covering the vent with that. It won't affect air flow at all but it's really water resistant. I have one of their pre-filters on my ATV and it's great.

Good on you and all for having a go, but why pretend it's something it isn't? ie Evo.

The only negative point to this topic so far, but I have to agree. I hate seeing SRT- design neons, or WRX's with STI wings, etc...

Yes, I completley understand what you are saying, and I realize it is rather pathetic...for the time being. It may not be an EVO, but it will the closest thing to an EVO that I can afford, let along have in the US (for this bodystyle). Eventually when I have a steady job (and still living at home) I will put more money into buying a 4g63t and rip an AWD tranny from an Eclipse GSX.

I wouldn't say it's pathetic, that might be too harsh.

I mean personally my approach to car modification is go before show anyway so I'm not going to agree with all the body mods anyway, (an attitude you kinda need to have when you knock your bodykit off on ripple strips all the time anyway haha) and if it were me I'd be saving up and dropping in the turbo engine and drivetrain as my first priority.

A local guy converted a Lancer GLI (basically it's like your mirage, but it has the square front of the Evo 5 already) into Evo spec body. Wide guards and all. Cost a lot of money that could go towards that turbo transplant.

Yeah, and even then I'd keep the Mirage styling and just add my own touches to the body. Just a neat understated bodykit. And that way, when you get lined up by a V8, they can't say, "Pffft well it's an Evo, they're fast n sh*t."

Instead it's, "holy sh*t I just got smoked by a Mirage."

But as I say, everyone has their own way of playing this whole car game, and I look forward to seeing how this progresses. smile.gif

Yeah getting the engine (when I was planning a car purchase) was going to be my first priority, but since I am still in high school I live with the parents and I doubt they would be inclined to pay my insurance with a 276hp engine in the thing lol.gif Since I do all this work around the house, it's their way of an allowance I guess. Oh well, I like it.

Another reason I am going this way is my money situation. Right now I have nearly enough for this conversion, even without a job. For me its nearly impossible to save for things with other items on my mind. So with this out of the way, all the funds (when I pick up a job) can go to the engine.

Well that enough discussion about that tounge.gif I should have a new update on Saturday, my MOMO EVO steering wheel should be arriving Friday.

Right. No sense revving your engine unless your going to pop the clutch.

Please don't start the whole 'rice vs. muscle' argument again. We all know that 1974 muscle cars were pitifully slow because of regulations, no point of talking big unless you actually smoked a 1968-ish muscle car.

Anyway, ricers suck ass.

my volks is not a ricer at all. It's just a "messed up" ride.

I'll post pics of the volks, but I'm not going to hijack BCSpeed's topic. Whenever I feel like making a topic for the car I will. hehe

@ Makotronic - There's already a topic for posting pics of your vehicle. Although if you wanted to start an official air cooled vehicle topic (VW, Porsche, Corvair, etc.), that'd be cool (hell, STM started a topic just for the Fiat Multipla, so why not).

@ Streetfire - I wouldn't call anything that was designed in the early 30's "rice." Especially a 52 split window bug.

Back on topic - What kind of performance mods is the Mirage going to get? Buying parts off of a totaled GSX doesn't sound like a bad idea.

Yes back on topic. The only modifications I have on my mind now are an exhaust system, silenced of course. Apart from that nothing else until I save up enough for a 4g63t conversion, the engine from the real EVO.

But I got the steering wheel in today, was much easier than anticipated!

Up next? Tires. Then lights and hood. I already ordered the lights.

I'd gut out the interior, RS style. Just looking at that shot of the interior made me realize how much weight could be lost if you did just that. We all know that the easiest way to make a car quicker is to take all the useless, unneeded sh*t out. And if you're making an Evo replica, why not make it an RS?
