Alright: - You can't ALT-TAB - You can't CTRL-SHIFT-ESC - You can't press on WINDOWS key - You can't press ALT-ENTER But you can press CTRL-ALT-DEL or CTRL-ALT-DELETE! You will get to the Windows logon screen (which pops up by default!). Just select "Start Task Manager" and it will bring you to the Task Manager by force, press "g" to find "gta_sa.exe" and then close down the process. And if you were to press ALT-TAB right away witohut pressing any other key combination, it would work as well! This post has been edited by Ring_of_Fire on Thursday, Jan 24 2008, 13:43

Alright here is what you have to do exactly people: | QUOTE | 1. http://i88.photobucket.com/albums/k166/MWarfare/sa_fix.jpg (Apply & OK)
2. Turn off compatibility mode. (Apply & OK)
3. Delete [.set] file.
4. Launch San Andreas.
5. Configure graphics, audio, and control settings as desired.
6. Start new game or load saved game.
7. Do not go back into Windows unless you choose "Quit Game" or if you are already inside the main menu. Switching back to Windows during gameplay will cause a crash and mouse freeze eventually. |
Tell me if my solution works good for you, gtamodder? You can keep trying to restart San Andreas, and you should realize you won't get a crash no more. | QUOTE (gtamodder) | | Yes it did, and about 95% of the time the game gets stuck on a black screen. |
That's what supposed to happen when you set the CPU priority higher than normal. It can also happen if you set the processor scheduling to "Background Services", or if you switched back to Windows without first going into the main menu. | QUOTE | | Setting it to XP Compatibilty mode fixed this. |
That didn't made a difference (even on 98 compatibility) - it still froze the mouse and crashed teh game. Unless you tried it on your Windows XP OS? | QUOTE | | Setting priority on high: start up game, task manager, click processes, right click gta-sa.exe, set priority to high. |

| QUOTE (gtamodder @ Jan 24 2008, 10:32) | | Your solution worked, thanks! |
I know. But what's interesting for a fact is that buying a dedicated sound card and turning off the onboard one can fix all these problems on Vista (I think). It is somehow putting stress on the CPU when it has to do some of the sound processing. When I disable my sound card in Vice City, I don't get mouse freezes and a black screen when the compatibility is turned off. So here is the officially fix people: | QUOTE | 1. http://i88.photobucket.com/albums/k166/MWarfare/sa_fix.jpg (Apply & OK)
As for Vice City, just set "Programs" to "Background Services" for the processor scheduling, turn off compatibility mode, and then delete [.set] file. Yes, Vice City does have a black screen issue, but not GTA3. http://www.gtaforums.com/index.php?showtopic=294498| QUOTE (girishb) | | Nope. It doesn't work. I can't seem to do anything. The screen just stays blank. Hence, the reboot. |
It works if you press CTRL-ALT-DEL because the Windows logon window will show up. Also, it can work if you press ALT-TAB, IF you didn't press any other button before. This post has been edited by Ring_of_Fire on Thursday, Jan 24 2008, 14:40

Do want to play San Andrea’s on vista just do this
Enable your main admin account and log on to that account when you want to play
If you use your own user/admin account it will not play and if it doe's you will only receive crashes, freezing ect' I have install hundreds of programs and games and have found quite a few that will only execute properly if used in the main admin account. Vista #uck up as normal, Vista’s little annoyances but so is DEP from occasion as well as UAC but I personally think the general idea around those two is good just have to iron out those quirks but would recommend leaving them on always except when needed to install certain programs
I have gta_sa.exe assigned in DEP but I am not sure if this makes any difference, if it’s allowed or not I just automatically assigned it assuming the worst, Simply try it first without assigning DEP
As for Graphics, 100% no Problem what so ever Sound, 100% no Problem what so ever Mouse, 100% no Problem what so ever
make sure if you altered any files just put it back the way it installed apply your cracks if any and PLAY, PLAY, PLAY
This probably would work for all GTA games, there’s only one way to find out Login Admin.
Hope this helps you guys I’ll check back to see if any of you had a problem.

I need serious help. I have a laptop that I use for GTA SA Version 2 and i used my desktop keyboard for the Ceasar Vialpando mission to do the lowrider thing. After that mission, I have not been able to load any saved games thereafter. I can't use my mouse to click on any of the game settings, my saved games don't load, and when "loading", it turns to a blank screen with "load game" at the top left corner and freezes...... My systemlooks like this 1 GB Ram Intel(TR) Celeron® M CPU 530@ 1.73GHz Windows Vista Home Premimum 128mb Video/Graphics Card Please help!
