| QUOTE (Tetsuo2501 @ Jan 21 2011, 05:35) | Beastie Boys only came out with one flexi. Also claiming that a band that took it's name from another band, is greater than said band is laughable.
I think you're either just trolling, or purposely trying to start arguments. |
First of all, Beastie Boys came out with one or two hardcore albums, if that's what you're referring to. Second of all, where'd I claim that any band took its name from whatever? I'm genuinely confused by this, whether that part of your post was meant for me or not. If you're referring to the Beastie Boys and Bad Brains, you're stupid, but I understand what you're referring to. Beastie Boys trying to have the same acronym as Bad Brains was an after-thought. It wasn't a serious idea on their part. Just kind of like "If we could get the same acronym of these guys, that'd be cool". Not anything else. And finally, the whole thing of "THEY GOT THEIR NAME FROM A DIFFERENT BAND (when they didn't really, at all) SO THE ORIGINAL BAND IS BETTER" is a terrible argument because that says nothing about musical skill/talent. I actually think you're trolling me! This post has been edited by Useless Dave on Friday, Jan 21 2011, 08:19

| QUOTE (ass reamer @ Jan 21 2011, 16:36) | | Beastie Boys better than Black Flag and Bad Brains? Get real, man. Beastie Boys barely played hardcore long enough for anyone to remember it. They released one 7 inch featuring 8 songs. Black Flag and Bad Brains are seminal hardcore bands, while the Beastie Boys were a flash in the pan who got huge by playing a completely different style of music. If you just personally prefer the Beastie Boys music then fine, but there's no way someone could argue they were more important than either of those two bands. | I'm not going to get on your ass for not knowing, but: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Pretzel_Nuggethttp://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Some_Old_Bullsh*thttp://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Pollywog_Stewhttp://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Aglio_e_Olio_%28EP%29Plus all of the hardcore songs on Check Your Head and Ill Communication. Not saying they were better than BB and BF, I just liked them better, and, as I said, it's an unpopular opinion. I think they were better simply because I liked them better. BF and BB may be more talented, but eh. Doesn't interest me all that much.

Arguing aside, anybody been to/going to any good gigs lately?
We put on Hellbastard, Post Fata Resurgo, Warprayer, Murder of Crows, Fresh Milk and This Ends here on Saturday. Didn't catch the first two bands as I was running around the other bands had eaten but managed to catch the last four.
Murder of Crows are a local crust punk band; who I've seen a few times now but still really like. Warprayer are another local crust band, this time with a more metallic edge. Post Fata Resurgo are an Italian crust metal band, they were really good, even if they did run over their set time by about 15 minutes!
Hellbastard are supposed to be a crossover thrash/crust band, though what they played that night was nothing but pure metal. They were pretty bigheaded too. Since Post Fata Resurgo ran over we told them they only had 15 minutes to set up and play in (the sound man was very strict about cutting off at 11PM). They spent the first 10 minutes putting up their banner with their name on it, and then continued to faff for another 5 minutes. Luckily the sound man gave them an extra 15 minutes. Their music sounded a lot more like Slayer than it did any crust band I'd ever heard.
Tomorrow I'm going to see T.S.O.L., which I'm pretty excited about! My girlfriend is coming in from out of town and is due to arrive at 8PM which is the same time as the gig starts; so that means I have to go meet her, then walk back to mine, drop her stuff off, then walk to the venue. Luckily the venue is only 5 minutes away from my house so that means we will only miss the first support band!
Tickets were £7 which for a touring American band is good, and for a legendary 80s hardcore band like T.S.O.L. is f*cking brilliant!

| QUOTE (ass reamer @ Jan 27 2011, 19:35) | | How was TSOL, Jacky? I never got into them a whole lot, I really only liked Dance With Me and definitely didn't care for their metal nonsense. | They pulled out. I was getting ready to go pick-up my girlfriend and head straight to the show when I got a text from my best friend telling me they'd had to cancel the show because T.S.O.L. couldn't get visas. F*ck the borders! Went to Taunton last night for Cut Cameron Festival, a big punk all-dayer organised by Anonymous Promotions & Old Hat Promotions, who put on benefit gigs round that area a lot. There were 20-odd bands playing but didn't catch most of them. Bands I did catch was: 51st State, Mad Apple Circus, Firepit Convention, Hated Til Proven, Bring To Ruins, 2 Sick Monkeys, Primeval Soup, Anarcho Folko and Spanner. 51st State stood out as the highlight of the day for me. They're a two-piece (drums & bass) anarcho-punk outfit from Taunton. It's nice to see a band play straight-up anarcho-punk without sliding into either skacore or crust. I really liked them and decided to get their contact details so I could put them on in Bristol soon-ish. I realised I only ever come into this topic to rant for ages about local gigs so I thought I'd talk about something we can all appreciate now! The first lot of bands for Punk Illegal 2011 have been announced: - ANTIDOTE
- BURNING KITCHEN
- FREDAG DEN 13:E
- JUGGLING JUGULARS
- MEINHOF
- NAILBITER
- RUIDOSA INMUNDICIA
- SIMBIOSE
- THE FIGHT
- TWOPOINTEIGHT
Looking pretty good so far!

Not until you mentioned it just this moment. Got another benefit gig coming up with weekend. Luckily not another one I'm organizing, which means I get the day off! On the bill this time we have Midlands ska punk Generic Eric, local reggae/ska band Rapscallion Sound and local hip-hop/folk artist Clayton Blizzard. Should be a good one, I'm looking forward to it. We're having February off as far as benefit gigs are concerned. Not putting anything on until March when we're putting on Finnish anarcho-punk band Kaapykarti and Polish hardcore band The Fight (hopefully with all-female London band Pettybone). In April I'm going to France with local band Spanner and legendary free-festival band AOS3. Looking forward to meeting some new people and hopefully catching some new French punk bands!
