Before anyone asks, the previous topic was closed in order to start off 2008 with a new topic, and fresh photos. The other topic will NOT be deleted, and a link to it can be found further down in this post. So if anyone fancies sifting through 50+ pages to look at photos, be my guest. The most active members in the last photo topic will make their first post in THIS thread a collection of their own favorites from V2.0. That makes it easier for the rest of us to see the best from the last topic.

The GTAF Photography topic is a place for all GTAF members to show, brag and display their photographic work, to get help or give tips. The two predeceeding editions of this topic were both instant successes, and showed that these boards consist of a large quantity of highly creative members. The Photography topic was originally named "GTAF Random Picture topic" and was created by -maddog-, the name was eventually changed to "GTAF Photography topic" and the rest is history!

This topic is strictly for photography discussion, any BS will be frowned upon. And the pictures posted here should be photography related. Post photos to show them to others, to get tips and help, or to help others. The following list is a list of images not wanted in this topic

  • Pictures you claim to be your own when they are not
  • 4chan fail
  • stupid gifs
  • random fail pics
  • Pics of Parkys butt
  • nudity (will also lead to a spanking)

GTAF Photography topic V2.0

Also isarapix.com is a good site for hosting images.

I like photography, I have relatives who're more into it than I am and while I like to take photos of things I don't have a real camera and have to settle for my phones camera. I want to buy something cheap and somewhat decent if at all possible.

Well as I only posted 10 pics in total I'm going to post them all here anyway, despite the poor quality.

This is a question i have pertaining to cameras...
My mom gave me her old 1-megapixel digital camera (from 1998?) but i accidentally corrupted the memory card when i wasn't paying attention and tried to stick it in my PC Upside-down. Could i fix it by deleting the corrupt directory inside the memory card and making a new directory of the same name?

Go to page 46 and look for my first post on that page, about half way down. I explained to Mercie about why I think the Canon 350D/Rebel XT is a good starter DSLR in that price range. I've got one and it's great, imo.

A good site to buy from? I'm pretty sure I got mine (with the kit lens, which I say works well, but is limited on zoom) on Amazon.com from Amazon (as opposed to a private seller) for $500. Looks like it's going for $460 right now on there, but I'd look around first, you might find a better deal. I hear B & H photo is a great place to buy from, excellent service and competitive prices. It's $460 over there too.

Links.

http://www.bhphotovideo.com/c/product/3711...l_Rebel_XT.html

Here's a very indepth review on it.
http://www.dcresource.com/reviews/canon/di...iew/index.shtml

Some basic info, it uses a rechargeable Lithium battery, included with the kit (as well as a charger), and uses Compact Flash cards wink.gif
Don't go for the version III, it'd be useless with that camera. Stick with a version II CF card if you go with that camera.

Hey thanks, I'm really temped. I went on Amazon and it shows the Rebel XTi for not much more, would I be better off with that?

I wish I could have went with the XTi, but I was stretching my budget at the time as it was.
I'd say go for it if you can.

The pluses over the XT and the XTi would be:

* New 10.1 effective Megapixel CMOS sensor (versus 8.0 on the Rebel XT)
* New dust reduction system (more details on this later)
* Large 2.5" LCD display (versus 1.8" on the XT)
* No more LCD info display (the main LCD is used instead)
* 9-point autofocus system (versus 7-point)
* Can now take more shots in a row in burst mode (27 vs 14 JPEG, 10 vs 6 RAW)
* New Picture Styles feature, first seen on the EOS-5D and 30D

A negative is that "Battery life is 10% lower than on the XT", although it shouldn't be a huge problem. If it is, just buy a second back up battery! tounge.gif

Here's the same site's (that I posted before) review on that, I'm sure it will give all the details of it compared to the XT, since it's the XTi's predecessor.
http://www.dcresource.com/reviews/canon/di...iew/index.shtml

Keep in mind when buying that "Body Only" means just the camera. For a starter, I'd really suggest going with the lens kit (comes with the 18-55mm lens). And be VERY aware that there's tons of scam sites for cameras. Like bestpricedcameras.com, STAY AWAY! Plenty of other ones. I'd suggest googling the site name and looking for reviews from many places on the store first, to make sure they're good.

As for learning how to use all that stuff like ISO, best to learn what it all means!
http://slupton.deviantart.com/art/Photogra...ionary-25968473

That's got tons of info, in a pretty easy to understand language. I'd also recommend finding some tips and tricks/tutorials on line, it'll give you some nice info on how to use your camera.
