| QUOTE (Bad~Boy#17 @ Nov 3 2007, 16:21) | A Question : Why are all the races Un-Locked if they cause glitches ? |
Because many of the features require some sort of a trade off to make them work with standard scripts. In this case, we are allowing for the potential of a glitch (with a clear warning in the description) in favor of allowing racing in restricted territories. 4 Star Racing was introduced by pdescobar in round 18 or 19. I really enjoy this feature, and asked PD to include it as a legacy feature in the current rounds. Other significant trade off include the alternate interiors, and warps. In many cases the normal interiors or destinations cannot be accessed at that location. However, judging by that fact that 7 enex redirections remain undiscovered, I don't think anyone is missing the standard configuration. | QUOTE (ryan92 @ Nov 3 2007, 16:36) | Well not all of them cause glitchs.
I know, Military service you can't do becasue of the barriers, um I dont really know about any others causing glitchs. Mabee OrionSR or pdescobar can answer that since, they are the developers. |
Actually, Military Service can be completed if CJ is very careful to avoid the invisible barriers blocking access to the coronas near Gant Bridge. SF to LV can't be completed due to the barrier blocking the bridge, but I don't think there are any extra glitches associated with this race. The problem is only likely to crop up for the 3 races that are supposed to be completed the 1st time during a mission. This post has been edited by OrionSR on Saturday, Nov 3 2007, 23:54

I've tried twice now to get friends of mine into joining the chain game, but unfortunately without success so far. I have a vague idea as for 2 possible reasons, and a suggestion for a remedy to one of them. Firstly, they were both German and probably far more worried about their English skills than necessary. But I also had the impression that they were both a bit put off by the "wall of text" that makes the rules. Don't get me wrong, no offence at all and completely pro-rules here, but my suggestion is this: Could we start future rounds' front pages with some sort of "Short Version" of the rules, "Newbie's Chain Game Quick Start" or something like that? It could be as simple as this: ---------------------------------------------------------- Joining the Chain Game is easy and new players are always welcome. If you're new and want to plunge right in, simply follow the Quick Start Guide for now and read the complete set of rules later. You're excused for now, but eventually you'll have to... - You can follow this link to go directly to the latest posting in the topic. [link would need to be updated for each round - or leave out if that's too much maintenance work]
---------------------------------------------------------- Comments, everyone...?!? [@ryan92 - and another question for the FAQ - Where do downloaded save files go? ]Another suggestion for a change to the rules:I would like to restrict the number of allowed Races per turn for future rounds. We put that rule of allowing 6 (or 3) of them in back when the games were progressing really slowly. This is not the case anymore. Also the races are available from the start and due to the 4star thing they have increased in popularity. My suggestion: max 2 races if no storyline mission / max 1 race if storyline mission. Too strict?

I have some suggestions; they’re more related to modding the game:
Is it possible to change difficulties?
Like making the Vigilante Mission harder? Maybe making it 20 or 25 levels before it’s completed, instead of 12; and maybe eliminating the Hunter and Rhino from the list of vehicles that are aloud to be used for those missions.
Making 4-Star areas into 5-Star or even 6-Star areas?
Adding a few hidden items that must be collected, like the recent Treasure Hunt games; or maybe just relocating some of the existing collectables, probably just some of the Horseshoes or Oysters, as Gang Tags and Snapshots may be too difficult to locate.
Changing the race markers to make the street/air races different.
Also, maybe creating a marker that functions like the marker in Gray Imports, it makes any vehicle that enters it Explosionproof and Fireproof, or more. The marker would be placed in a 4-Star area, as a challenge.
Opening the ‘Beat the Cock’ races and Freight Train Missions from the beginning of the game. I know that the barriers would cause a problem.
And just for fun… Change the spawn locations for people, like maybe country people appearing in Los Santos, etc.

| QUOTE (zmoonchild @ Nov 5 2007, 13:52) | | I have some suggestions; they’re more related to modding the game: |
I'm reluctant to discuss too many modding details for fear of confusing this topic. If things get too technical let's take the discussion to another topic or forum. | QUOTE (continued) | Is it possible to change difficulties?

Changing the number of levels would require modifying the scripts, and this is against the Chain Game tradition of using unmodified scripts. | QUOTE (continued) | | Making 4-Star areas into 5-Star or even 6-Star areas? |
This might be possible. We'll have to run some tests to see how it works, then decide if this is a feature that should be included in an open game with people of various skill levels. | QUOTE (continued) | | Adding a few hidden items that must be collected, like the recent Treasure Hunt games; or maybe just relocating some of the existing collectables, probably just some of the Horseshoes or Oysters, as Gang Tags and Snapshots may be too difficult to locate. |
I really wanted to add hidden items, but the pickup pool is so full that I feel the need to quickly collect a few oysters or something to free up some room in the pool. I had it so full during testing that items were turning up missing. Moving things around shouldn't be a problem, and we could always reuse "lame" pickups for something else, but I'm not sure how SAMA would handle the changed collectibles, and we rely on that program for keeping the record keeping simple. However, when I checked on the Treasure Hunt topic it seemed that people were frustrated when trying to find a few specific items in a limited area. I'm not sure that this would be as much fun as anticipated, so I've been putting my efforts into other areas. We should at least test the idea on something that isn't required for 100%. | QUOTE (continued) | | Changing the race markers to make the street/air races different. |
I suspect this is a scripting change again. I don't see any reference to the markers in the save file. | QUOTE (continued) | Also, maybe creating a marker that functions like the marker in Gray Imports, it makes any vehicle that enters it Explosionproof and Fireproof, or more. The marker would be placed in a 4-Star area, as a challenge. |
Sure sounds cool, but again, I don't think this modification can be made to a save file. A good reference for what is contained in the save file can be found at The Wiki Page for SA Save Files. Proofing vehicles is one of those things that works though mission coding. However, garages remember the immunities, so that's the best I've been able to offer. | QUOTE (continued) | | Opening the ‘Beat the Cock’ races and Freight Train Missions from the beginning of the game. I know that the barriers would cause a problem. |
I suspect this will open depending on the current islands that are unlocked, so we probably can't change them without seriously messing things up. Do you see any reason to try opening the Quarry missions early? | QUOTE (continued) | And just for fun… Change the spawn locations for people, like maybe country people appearing in Los Santos, etc. |
This is possible, I think. I've messed with similar values but so far no one has noticed the changes. This post has been edited by OrionSR on Tuesday, Nov 6 2007, 00:07

We can up the max wanted level but it won't stick. Just Business will reset the max wanted level to 4, as will Reuniting the Families. And some truth-related phone call sets the max to 5. Also, the number of stars you get for traveling to restricted territories cannot be changed as far as I know. So going to a non-military restricted area would still only get you 4 stars and you'd have to do some damage to kick it up to 5 or 6. | QUOTE (continued...) | | QUOTE (continued) | | Changing the race markers to make the street/air races different. |

Yep, the behavior of that marker is completely scripted; it's a mission "feature." | QUOTE (continued...) | | QUOTE (continued) | | Opening the ‘Beat the Cock’ races and Freight Train Missions from the beginning of the game. Orion is correct; both of these missions depend upon the global "cities/islands unlocked" variable. The only way to make them accessible at the start of the game on the original scripts is to open up the entire map. Trust me, if I had found a decent way to enable them early, it would have happened before round 20.

| QUOTE (girishb @ Nov 5 2007, 20:59) | | As for the rules, it is indeed a good suggestion, but the current rules should also find a place since they explain all the small things in detail. Perhaps, JAJ can create two posts - the first post stating the quick rules and the second post explaining them in detail. Once the central concept of the Chain Game has been absorbed, newbies won't mind reading into the details. | I didn't think of that as two separate postings - putting it somewhere on top, above the long rules, would be fine. Bad News:It finally hit the fan yesterday. I'll be off to hospital later today and won't be around for a while (can't say for how long). Have fun with the next round(s) and enjoy the hunt for specials.
