Well, we seem to lack a reggae thread on these forums. Who's fan of some Jamaican vibe?.. Let's talk about.

I, personally, am more of a roots reggae head, preferring Black Uhuru, Bob Marley, ASWAD, Culture, the list goes on... Well, you get it - mostly older and melodic music.

http://youtube.com/watch?v=-X204_7mjOE --- Bull in the pen, Black Uhuru
http://youtube.com/watch?v=HeW_sqQar2U --- International herb, Culture (RIP to the vocalist, what a great guy he was)
http://youtube.com/watch?v=LcHVPFrsx9o --- 54-46 Was My Number, ASWAD

List goes on, you know.

Some new music is good too, though. Not as nice as the older one, but I still like.

http://youtube.com/watch?v=9Kv4MfhIpVM --- Jah Jah City, Capleton f/ Sizzla
http://youtube.com/watch?v=Vr73Y3SAyOc --- It Was Written, Damian Marley, Stephen Marley, Capleton

I sort of dislike the dancehall reggae... Meh. It's good in the clubs, when you're drunk or high, but it has almost nothing musical in it. Rythm and scream.

Skinhead Reggae?.. Never heard about it. Wait.. SKINHEAD and REGGAE... Do these two even match?

http://youtube.com/watch?v=jW4te_2-HUI

The music is good, I just peeped it. But I always thought the word "skinhead" was a direct relative of "racism", while Reggae was originally a Black Jamaican music.

Paradox.

I dig raggae.

I always try to catch the local raggae fest at the hippie campground. Fun times.

Paradox.

The skinhead subculture has nothing to do with racism or anything for that matter, search it on wikipedia or something. Most people associate it with racism because as the National Front started to recruit some of the skinheads into their ranks, the media focused a lot of attention on them. The fact that the original skinheads weren't racist (and still aren't racist in the present, there's a very bigger number of anti-racist or just non-racist ones) and there even were blacks (Jamaicans) among them wasn't known by most people.

Also, when you're talking about those fascistoid dingbats who shave their head with a razor-blade (not like a skinhead is supposed to do), don't call them skinheads because they don't even dress like one. Call them boneheads instead.

Also, take a look at this video:

Wut. This guy looks old.

Yep, he was born in 1936 and he's still going strong. His last album is a smacker. Hes only produced for Bob Marley & the Wailers Junior Byles (to name a couple) and credited with creating Dub Reggae won a Grammy and is on the Rolling Stone top 100 list of Greatest Artists of All Time..

That and he's a complete nut-ball. Watch him while he plays with a fire outside his house/studio with Jools Holland. Notice the toaster.

"Have you ever heard of the Atomic Man? Well, I am the Atomic Man."

Recent live show...

Looks like he's going to have a heart attack any second.

Sorry for posting lots of his stuff but I guess I'm just very excited to see him. lol.gif

I love reggae. Basically every Trojan Records album is great. I especially like Bob of course, Toots and the Maytals, the Upsetters, the Ethiopians, Beres Hammond, U-Roy, Luciano, King Tubby, Mad Professor and a whole bunch of other stuff that would be too long to list.

Great song, and look at U-Roys eyes!

U-Roy toasting at the beginning. Kind of a precursor to rapping.

U-Roy - Soul Rebel

Beres Hammond - Putting Up A Resistance.

I'm not into reggae at all, but I wanna start getting into it. Theres a guy called Dwayne Husbands but I don't know if he sings reggae because I've only heard him in a Rihanna song that had a reggae beat plus he sounds Jamacan.

Woh, hell yeah! :3

Also, here's the song that gets me hooked for hours, non-stop listening. Morgan Heritage is simply just too great on this track. It's the Mount Zion Medley, with Capleton (sort of Jah Jah City's remix), Jah Cure, Morgan Heritage and more.

Here's the official video:

Morgan Heritage wins so hard... "Liberation woooh... Wo-ooo-ooh..."

---

Dub has to be my favorite over all. If Reggae is more sunshine-feeling, Dub really matches myself: more rythmic and slightly darker vibes.

Also, any of you guys heard Russian Reggae?.. Must be strange for you to hear such, but I'm telling you, it's great. This is my favorite band: Jah Division, of Russian musicians and a Cuban vocalist. I went to one of their shows in Nijni Novgorod, the ambiance is just magic; especially because Gera Morales, the singer, has dreads to his toes and is always smiling.

Here's their concert recording, Jah Rastafari song:

Here's their video, Cubana:

Great tune.

peter tosh is my favorite. I've heard his, bob's, augustas, dennis and bunny's mmusic since I was young. I always choose peter over bob because bob is so well known and respected. and though peter is, not lot of people know him. The original herbalist verbalist.
