I don't think Claude is a very typical american name..what nationality might he be? any ideas?

Claude did in one mission start to talk and got cut off. We have no proof that he is Mute.

As for his nationality, this has been discussed before. His actor in GTA2's movie was Brittish. Maybe he is Brittish born to a French family.

Yes he was the main character in Liberty City ( GTA III not stories ). He didn't talk....

When people say he's a mute, that doesn't necessarily mean he is. People just call him that because he's never spoke in any of the GTA games. Besides, I think that's Rockstar's way of being a bit original and having debate over the fact that no-one's has actually heard his voice.

well he didnt talk in GTA III and he doesnt talk in GTA SA... one way of looking at it is maybe R* wanted to show the contrast between the extrovert, lively and very talkative Catalina and her rather timid, boyfriend who doesnt talk much. Just cuz he doesnt say anything dont mean he's a mute, just that R* didnt pay much emphasis on him as a character since maybe we'd be too interested and involved with his boisterous girlfriend Catalina instead of him

Also, I doubt she'd be with someone who couldn't speak. How would she know what his favorite food was?

Actually its a prequel, but you get the idea.
