In San Andreas, when you beat Claude at a race where you meet Wu Zi Mu, you get a garage in Doherty, thus making you fix up the trash heap. Throughout the game Catalina calls you and says dumb things to CJ. One time she calls she was ment to actually call Claude, but called CJ instead. Claude isn't a mute to talk on the phone. He can't make sound effects in the background and have conversations with Claude unless he had a voice. Catalina also knows the his name is Claude. He must've told her! Claude, a mute? No. My opinion, he chooses not to talk.

Maybe R* didn't want him to talk.

Also, Catalina was Claude's girlfriend in GTA III. So, she must have known his name since then.

Who says Claude and Catalina even talk on the phone? People call Claude, Claude doesn't call others. He doesn't talk.

How can Claude talk on the phone? If he was a mute Catalina wouldn't call Claude. She calls CJ thinking she called Claude at one part of the game saying 'Oh Claude, I miss you so much!' or something like that, and CJ says 'Nah, it's CJ...'.

In my opinion, made Claude a mute to cease arguments over the fact why he didnt previously talk in GTA3.

I've always thought the reason he never talked in GTA 3 is because catalina shot him in the throat in the beginning.

& the reason he doesn't talk in SA is he never gets a chance, catalina's too busy telling carl off. If i remember right- before catalina started hitting carl's zr350, he was talking to someone.

III was set in 2001
sa was set in 1992

Claude Speed never was a mute, he just doesn't talk much.

Here's an idea:

In 1992 when Catalina and him met, he could talk. Just because he didn't talk in the while we saw him in SA doesn't mean he couldn't.

Maybe something happened in those 9 years that made him mute.

The "logic" that Catalina expects Claude to talk on the phone is hilarious when you remember how many times Claude silently listens to phone calls in GTA3.

From what we have seen, Claude is a mute. We have no actual proof of him talking.

I think that R* didn't want to give Claude a voice actor in GTA III. In GTA1 and GTA2, they never made the playable characters speak. That doesn't mean that they were mute. The guys whom you get jobs from spoke though. R* just continued the tradition in GTA III. The storyline was extended upto San Andreas. It wouldn't have looked nice if Claude suddenly spoke then.

So we can only speculate for now. Whether Claude is really mute or not.
