aw yeah, got me a new toy on Tuesday. Here it was in it's stock config:

iBook G3 500mhz
128mb of RAM (64mb soldered, 64mb stick)
10gb 4200 RPM HD
CD-ROM
Mac OS X 10.3.5

Upgrades:

80gb 5400 RPM Seagate HD
192mb of RAM (64mb soldered, + 128mb in socket)
Mac OS X 10.3.9
Airport card

I plan on getting enough RAM for tiger, but panther is smooth as silk on it.

It does not run a 750fx, so I can't softclock it with iCook, which is a damn shame.

My only other gripes with it, is it came with a 3rd party AC adapter, and the jack is messed up or something, so it will only charge in a certin way. This one not being the model with the glowing LED around the power jack, I am left to wait for the lights on the battery to start glowing, or watch the battery icon i n X to change. The jack is also smaller, so that leaves my 4 yo-yo adapters out in the cold, as they have the bigger jacks. From what I have gathered, Apple DID make a yo-yo with a smaller jack that originally shipped with these machines, before moving to the 45 watt white brick.

oh yeah, I can't seem to find the old Gmail Notify that runs on panther, so i'm out of luck on that front.

I bet you could pick up a used iBook G3/G4 power adapter on ebay for pretty cheap.

I can confirm that they did indeed make that adapter for that model iBook. It was essentially the same Yo-Yo used for the Clamshells, but the power adapter bit that plugged into the disk was skinnier and this ugly blue-green color.

As for your charging problems, it's probably the result of a bad DC-In or the cheap charger. If you have another charger, preferably the brick that has the lights, plug it in and jiggle it. If the light on it goes on and off (or from orange to green), the DC-In is bad. If it doesn't, you have a bad charger. Replacing either really isn't too difficult or imperative, but it's up to you how bothersome the charging situation is.

Well, I found out my compooper should in theory support OSx86,

Bit of a surprise as I expected it to only be for intel rigs and mine's AMD,

But, sadly a comp failure left me without the image (stupid virus) which means I have to go through the hassle of trying to find an up to date image of the install disk... again.

grrr.

QUOTE (Macrumors @ July 21 @ 2007 08:58 PM EST)
There have been rumors that the next "6th Generation" iPod could be released as early as August 7th, 2007. According to some sources, the new iPod may still be housed in the traditional click-wheel design rather than moving to a full touch-screen design like the new iPhone.

user posted image

An anonymous source now claims that the iPod interface will be revamped to a more visual interface, with iPhone-like design elements and transitions. The new interface will incorporate Ken Burns album art transitions, Cover Flow and a new split-screen interface. The overall look and feel will be familiar to current iPod owners but have the additional visual flair.

It's not yet clear if OS X is hidden behind this new user interface, but Steve Jobs had recently revealed that they are working on OS X based iPods.

The following interface videos have also been provided, and though their authenticity can't be guaranteed, they certainly look convincing. The Beatles' albums appear to play a large role in the interface videos, suggesting that online Beatles sales will launch concurrently with the 6G iPod's release.

Videos: World Clock, Now Playing, Thumbnail.

Link.

Take note, for that is the correct way to post a blog. Anywho, thoughts? I really hope this isn't true, otherwise I'll be getting a 5G from ebay or somewhere on the cheap.

We've barely heard anything about the 6thG iPod and they're releasing it in less than three weeks? There's no way that's possible.

Apple's legal team has asked macrumors to remove that blog post, and Apple has never asked them to remove anything that wasn't real. That sucks. Perhaps it is the interface for the new ipod nano... I still want to dream of a multi-touch ipod. sad.gif

What is the appeal of using a touch screen on tiny electronics? Fingertips are big and using a stylus requires two hands. Whats wrong with buttons and their one handed ways? Will someone please think of the one handed people?

Whats your other hand always doing?

I just like the full screen idea. Trying to press something with your finger can be anoying tho.

Well, sometimes you have to hold something in your hand, thus one hand less to use, and when you have buttons that are stationary, its easier to learn and faster to use rather than having to use two hands and keeping your head down to make sure that what you are tapping is a virtual button. With buttons, the learning curve is much easier and pro's can text or do whatever one handed without looking or needing to constantly be staring downwards at their phone. I know that this is picky and there are some people who don't apply. But to me, using one hand, to walkie talkie or make a call to somebody without even opening my phone, or even opening the flip and pressing buttons is much easier and faster (at least for me it is). Touch screens are better suited for bigger devices that have room for your hands and are stationary. Just like when you type with your keyboard, if you are good enough, you can type out this whole paragraph like me without looking at your keyboard. I am also sitting at a bit of a distance and my screen is clean. I don't have to get up really close to my screen and press my screen which is vital to my operations of my PC. I don't like the idea of smudging my screen because I have to. [/rant]

What my grandpa has (I use for internet browsing)

17" eMac
700 Mhz G4 Processor
40 GB HD
384 MB RAM
32 MB Nvidia GeForce 2MX
DVD/CD-RW Drive
OS X 10.4.10

It still runs very well, considering he got it in '02 or '03 (I forgot). Only problem was with either the memory or the hard drive getting bad. He's thinking about getting a new iMac soon and probably giving this one to my sister to f*ck up.

Well, now trying to install Mac has left me at an interesting dilema.

It would now seem that it has killed all of my mouse drivers, how I don't know. But it has.

Now none of my 4 mice work in any of my 8 usb ports, even after a restart. great huh?

So now I'm stuck using mouse keys until I can fix it, oh and mac didn't even install, it kept on throwing up a "please restart your pc to continue"

gay fruit company.

I shall however persevere in my quest for the sacred fruit.

[edit]

Well, I've since got my mice to work by trying to install mac in safe mode.

I'm gonna go and double check that all my hardware is supported and try and find the latest version and install instructions... fun ey?

I did however get Kubuntu to install pretty easily

Alright, well, it may be the adapter. I am getting one off ebay. the little square one, 45w, with the grounded cable. I think this one lights up, so let's hope it works. I don't really trust 3rd party stuff since my Pelican Power Brick sploded.

did the yo-yo adapters for the clamshess have the light? I have 4 of them, and none of them light up. Yeah, they have bigger jacks.

Oh yeah, i'll be getting a 512mb module to max the icebook in a trade for my pismo's parts, which is essentailly a complete machine, sans CPU, airport card, and hard drive. i'll be shipping it with a 256mb high profile module as well.oh yeah, and for any of you who like the older macs, such as I, I got a job writing for lowendmac. A new column titled "Collection Spotlight", and you can find it here. I am late in submitting the 3rd article for this week, I may just delay it to next week. Oh well.
