thats a lose right there. the tech is still to expensive for large ammounts of space. |
I really don't think so, prices on the consumer end of flash have dropped dramatically in only the last 5-6 months.... I can only imagine that apple will be getting a steep discount in their mass volume purchases as well. Tech analysts are quoting that the 4 gig iphone costs apple only $20USD more to produce than the 8 gig, that puts 4 gigs of flash at 20 dollars to apple. | 4 gig SD card, 38 bucks
32 gig ssd, still 500 bucks
even if they load up on a pile of the 20 dollar 4g flash chips, its still 160 bucks for the disk space alone, for the 32 gig. if they get half price on the SSD, its still 250. to match the 80, you might as well e-bay an old 80 giger

My setup: Power Macintosh G3 Blue and White 400mhz 512mb SD-RAM 120gb HD Mac OS X 10.4.10 (fully supported, so no xpostfacto) 4+1 USB 2.0 PCI card ATI Rage 128 16mb VRAM (stock) Apple 15" Studio LCD (blueberry) Bluetooth 2.0+EDR USB stick (my latest upgrade. really nice) planned upgrades: -1gb of RAM (I need 4x 256mb PC100s. right now I have 4x128mb) ATA-100 card to make my hard drive come alive ATI Radeon 9200 PCI gfx card (128mb VRAM) Mac OS X 10.5 Leopard and when I get some cash, a ZIF upgrade card. not the 1ghz G4 sonnet sells, that underclocks your bus to 66mhz. I want either a 1ghz or 1.1ghz G3 that powerlogix sells/sold. iPod: -4th gen U2 iPod (without the colour screen), 20gb HD. I really want to get a vodpod, since I am watching more and more videos. oh yeah, what's with PC Chat being renamed Tech & PC Chat? and WD&P renamed Web Design/Programming? oh yeah, in 2 days, I should have my 500mhz icebook (iBook G3 dual USB), to replace my dead pismo, which should bring in more than what I paid for it on eBay. So excited AMF 4ever. -digital

| QUOTE (stretch. @ Jul 8 2007, 12:35) | This might sound a silly question, and to seasoned mac heads it will be,
But, what sort of hardware specs does mac os support?
I'm considering mac, but the price of a mac pro pushes that away from me, and the mac mini isn't exactly upgradeable, as is the same with the iMac,
so what are mac options for hardware builders? | to run OSx86 (which is illegal), you need a intel processor that supports either SSE2 or SSE3, which are instruction sets. I don't know when it started, but my mother's toshiba Satellite 1135-S125 is from 2002-2003 (don't remember when she got it) has a 1.8ghz celeron, and it supports SSE2. I think you will be ok with a celeron, as OS X will just see it as a core solo. or, you could go out and get a B&W G3. From 1999, but fully support Mac OS X Tiger. I got mine for $60 shipped, and they are flodded on ebay. A good, cheap OS X box. AMF 4ever. -digital

I was thinking about stretching to a cheap G4, stylish and the like, more powerful than the G3, has a tft screen and is much better looking, either that or a pro. I've had a look at the osx86 and found that my amd processor is supported, which actually took me by huge surprise, so I'm going to investigate the rest of my computer specs and see if running it on my pc is feasable. Ebay G4Or that.
